2014 Indian General Elections
General elections were held in India in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014 to elect the members of the 16th Lok Sabha. With 834 million registered voters, they were the largest-ever elections in the world until being surpassed by the 2019 elections. Around 23.1 million or 2.7% of the total eligible voters were aged 18–19 years. A total of 8,251 candidates contested the 543 elected Lok Sabha seats. Kirtivardhan Bhagwat Jha Azad (; born 2 January 1959) is an Indian politician and former cricketer and who played seven Test matches and 25 One Day International for the India national cricket team between 1980 and 1986. Chandra Shekhar Dubey (born 2 January 1946) also known as Dadai Dubey was a Cabinet minister in Jharkhand government. He was an elected MLA of Bishrampur (Vidhan Sabha constituency). Rita Verma (born 15 July 1953 in Patna) is an Indian politician and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She is a former Minister of State of Mines and Minerals in the Indian government. Litterateur and parliamentarian Shankar Dayal Singh (Hindi: डा० शंकर दयाल सिंह) was twice elected to the Parliament of India.
