Simon Newton Dexter
Simon Newton Dexter (May 11, 1785 Providence, Rhode Island - November 18, 1862 Whitesboro, Oneida County, New York) was an American merchant and a New York politician. Life He was the son of Andrew Dexter, the first American manufacturer of cotton goods. He matriculated at Brown University, but soon left that institution to engage in business in Boston. In 1815, he removed to Whitesboro, and in 1817 took part in the construction of a section of the Erie Canal. From 1824 to 1829, he was engaged in the construction of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. On returning to Whitesboro he became agent of the Oriskany Manufacturing Company, and in 1832 assumed charge of the Dexter Company. He was also largely interested in manufactures elsewhere in the State of New York and in Elgin, Illinois. In 1840, he was elected by the New York State Legislature one of the canal commissioners, and remained in office until 1842 when the new Democratic majority removed the Whig commissioners. ...

Samuel Dexter
Samuel Dexter (May 14, 1761May 4, 1816) was an early American statesman who served both in Congress and in the Presidential Cabinets of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Dexter was an 1881 graduate of Harvard College. After receiving his degree he studied law, attained admission to the bar in 1784, and began to practice in Lunenburg, Massachusetts. A Federalist, Dexter served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1788 to 1790. In 1792 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives, and he served in the 3rd United States Congress. The state legislature subsequently elected Dexter to the United States Senate, and he served from March 1799 to May 1800. Dexter resigned his senate seat to accept appointment as United States Secretary of War, and he served from 1800 to 1801. Nancy Nugent Dexter (; 16 February 1923 – 21 April 1983) was an Australian journalist. Dexter was born Nancy Hanks in Coburg, Victoria, Coburg in Melbourne, but moved with her family to Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Wagga Wagga in New South Wales during the Great Depression. She was educated at Wagga Wagga High School until the age of 15, when although wanting to continue her education, she left school due to an unsympathetic father. (Thomas) Michael Dexter FRS (born 15 May 1945) is a British haematologist and director of the Wellcome Trust, from 1998 to 2003. Education Dexter was inspired to take A levels at night school and went on study physiology and zoology at the University of Salford. He worked several times for Robert Lippert and American International Pictures. Life and career Dexter was born in Paris, Arkansas, to William Henry and Emma (née Foster) Poindexter.
