Dewsbury Bus Station
Dewsbury bus station serves the town of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. The bus station is managed and owned by Metro (West Yorkshire PTE). The bus station is situated in Dewsbury town centre next to Aldams Road ( A638 road) and can be accessed there and from South Street. The bus station was rebuilt in 1994 with a main passenger concourse and 19 bus stands. History The bus station opened in December 1994. It replaced an older bus station situated in Asman Square (now the Asman Centre), which operated from 1932 to 1980. In 2007, toilet facilities at the bus station were replaced. In 2021, artwork was installed on the wall of the bus station. Services The main operator at Dewsbury Bus Station is Arriva Yorkshire, with other services provided by Yorkshire Tiger and Longstaffs. Dewsbury
Dewsbury is a minster and market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the River Calder and on an arm of the Calder and Hebble Navigation waterway. It is to the west of Wakefield, east of Huddersfield and south of Leeds. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, after undergoing a period of major growth in the 19th century as a mill town, Dewsbury went through a period of decline. Dewsbury forms part of the Heavy Woollen District of which it is the largest town. According to the 2011 census, Dewsbury had a population of 62,945. Huddersfield
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. The River Holme's confluence into the similar-sized Colne to the south of the town centre which then flows into the Calder in the north eastern outskirts of the town. The rivers around the town provided soft water required for textile treatment in large weaving sheds, this made it a prominent mill town with an economic boom in the early part of the Victorian era Industrial Revolution. The town centre has much neoclassical Victorian architecture, one example is which is a Grade I listed building – described by John Betjeman as "the most splendid station façade in England" – and won the Europa Nostra award for architecture. FreeCityBus
FreeCityBus or FreeTownBus is a family of zero-fare bus services which are operated in the centres of several cities and towns in the England, English county of West Yorkshire. The services operate as ''FreeCityBus'' in the city of Wakefield and as ''FreeTownBus'' in the towns of Huddersfield and Dewsbury. The service is run under contract to West Yorkshire Metro. FreeCityBus had also operated in Leeds between 2006 and 2011 before being replaced by LeedsCityBus in April 2011 then joining onto route 5 in 2016 and in Bradford before being replaced by Bradford City Bus in 2016. Since the first service began in 2006, over 11 million passengers have used the free bus services.
