Dewi may refer to either a Welsh or Southeast Asian name. Neither is pronounced as "dewy". Fixed surnames were adopted in Wales from the 15th century onwards. Until then, the Welsh had a patronymic naming system. Dewi Sartika (4 December 188411 September 1947) was an advocate for and pioneer of education for women in Indonesia. She founded the first school for women in the Dutch East Indies. She was honoured as a National Hero of Indonesia in 1966. Biography Dewi Sartika was born to Sundanese noble parents, R. Rangga Somanegara and R. A. Dewi Muria Agung (born 16 December 1985), better known by her stage name Dewi Persik (also spelled Dewi Perssik) and nicknamed Depe after her monogram, is an Indonesian dangdut singer.
