Sir Christopher John "Jack" Dewhurst (2 July 1920 – 1 December 2006) was a British gynecologist. He was Professor and Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London University, from 1967 to 1985. He served as president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists from 1975 to 1978. Sir Christopher Dewhurst was knighted in 1978 for his work in medicine. Ian Dewhurst (born 13 November 1990) is an Australian athlete specialising in the 400 metres hurdles. He won a bronze medal at the 2013 Summer Universiade. In addition, he represented his country at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games without qualifying for the final. Dewhurst is a town in Clark County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 323 at the 2010 census. The ghost town of Trow was located in the town. History The town was formed on November 15, 1901, and was originally named "Mound". However, the town was renamed in honor of Richard Dewhurst, a jurist and legislator. The first town meeting was held in April 1902. Geography The town of Dewhurst is located in southwestern Clark County, bordered to the south and west by Jackson County. The Black River, a tributary of the Mississippi River, flows across the southeast corner of the town; the northern half of Lake Arbutus, an impoundment on the river, is within the town. Wynford Dewhurst RBA (26 January 1864 – 9 July 1941) was an English Impressionist painter and notable art theorist. He spent considerable time in France and his work was profoundly influenced by Claude Monet. Biography Wynford Dewhurst was born Thomas Edward Smith to an affluent family in Manchester in 1864. He was educated at home by a private tutor and later at Mintholme College. Although he originally trained to enter the legal profession, he showed artistic flair and decided to pursue a career as a painter after some of his drawings were published in various journals. Gerard Powys Dewhurst J.P. (14 February 1872 – 29 March 1956; sometimes referred to as Gerald Powys Dewhurst) was an English cotton merchant and banker. He was also an amateur footballer, and earned one international cap for England in 1895, playing as an inside forward. Early and personal life Born in London, he was the son of George Bakewell Dewhurst and Frances Ada Dewhurst (née Mann). He grew up at Oughtrington Hall in Lymm, Cheshire, and was educated at Repton School, where he was a member of the school football XI in 1889 and 1890, and Trinity College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge, he earned a "blue" in 1892, 1893 and 1894. In 1897 he married Mary Brougham, by whom he had two sons. Colleen Rose Dewhurst (3 June 1924 – 22 August 1991) was a Canadian-American actress mostly known for theatre roles. She was a renowned interpreter of the works of Eugene O'Neill on the stage, and her career also encompassed film, early dramas on live television, and performances in Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival.
