Dewey Creacy
Albert Dewey Creacy (April 13, 1899 – November 17, 1984) was an American Negro league third baseman in the 1920s and 1930s. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Creacy made his Negro leagues debut in 1924 with the St. Louis Stars. He knocked a home run for St. Louis in both the team's 1925 Negro National League championship series loss, and in the team's 1928 championship series victory, and was a mainstay with the club through the 1931 season. After bouncing around with several teams in 1932 and 1933, Creacy caught on with the Philadelphia Stars in 1934, and remained in Philadelphia for five seasons to finish his career. He died in Los Angeles, California in 1984 at age 85. Third Baseman
A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. In the scoring system used to record defensive plays, the third baseman is assigned the number 5. Third base is known as the "hot corner", because the third baseman is often the infielder who stands closest to the batter—roughly 90–120 feet away, but even closer if a bunt is expected. Negro National League (1920–1931)
The first Negro National League (NNL) was one of the several Negro leagues that were established during the period in the United States when organized baseball was segregated. The league was formed in 1920 with former player Rube Foster as its president. Negro League
The Negro leagues were United States professional baseball leagues comprising teams of African Americans and, to a lesser extent, Latin Americans. The term may be used broadly to include professional black teams outside the leagues and it may be used narrowly for the seven relatively successful leagues beginning in 1920 that are sometimes termed "Negro Major Leagues". In the late 19th century, the baseball color line developed in professional baseball, excluding African Americans from league play.
