Dewetshof is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It lies around 5.5 km northeast of City Hall between Observatory and Cyrildene, north of Observatory Hill. It borders Bezuidenhout Valley on the southwest, Kensington on the south, and Bruma on the southeast. Cyrildene () is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa, predominantly home to Chinese people. The area is found east of the Johannesburg CBD and is surrounded by the suburbs of Linksfield, Observatory and Bruma. It is noted for a new Chinatown that exists on Derrick Avenue. Kensington, Gauteng
Kensington is a hilly suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It was established in 1897 by Max Langermann (after whom the thoroughfare Langermann Drive is named). It is located in Region F of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality and is bounded to the west by the suburb of Troyeville, to the east by Bedfordview and the north by Bruma and Cyrildene. Bruma is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. In the 1990s Bruma was well known for South Africa's first manmade lake-side shopping centre, and for its popular African curios and crafts market which attracted tourists and day visitors from around the country. As a popular entertainment destination Bruma boasted many activities and a plethora of restaurants and retail stores. Nicolaas Jacobus De Wet
Nicolaas Jacobus de Wet, PC, QC (11 September 1873 – 16 March 1960) was a South African politician, lawyer, and judge who was Chief Justice of South Africa and acting Governor-General from 1943 to 1945. Early life De Wet was born and went to school in Aliwal North, and attended Victoria College in Stellenbosch. He then went to Downing College at the University of Cambridge, from which he earned his LLB (First Class, with the Chancellor's Medal) in 1895. He was admitted as an advocate (the South African equivalent of a barrister) in 1896. During the Anglo-Boer War he was military secretary to General Louis Botha, commandant-general of the Transvaal forces, and acted as an interpreter at the peace conference that ended the war in 1902. Doornfontein is an Suburbs of Johannesburg, inner-city suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa, located to the east of the city centre, Region 8 (Johannesburg), Region 8. History The area, whose name means "thorn fountain", was originally the southern part of a farm owned by Frederick Jacobus Bezuidenhout, and was proclaimed a public diggings after the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand in 1886. The suburb was laid out in the late 1880s by Thomas Yeo, and became the first residential suburb of Johannesburg. In 1897 the freehold of the suburb was bought by a company owned by the mining magnate Barney Barnato, and the district became known as "Millionaire's Row".
