John Dewes
John Gordon Dewes (11 October 1926 – 12 May 2015) was an English cricketer, who played for Cambridge University and Middlesex, and was chosen for five Test matches between 1948 and 1950. Life and career Dewes was a protégé of E. J. H. Nash, the British Evangelical Anglican clergyman (along with fellow cricketer David Sheppard). In 1945, he was one of three relative unknowns from public schools included in the England side for the third Victory Test against Australia at Lord's (it was his first-class debut). The others were Donald Carr from Repton School and the Etonian, Luke White. Dewes had left Aldenham School the previous year. In the event, the three contributed little, and did not figure again in the other Victory matches. Dewes did National Service in the Royal Navy, then went up to St John's College, Cambridge, in 1947. Francis Dewes
Francis Joseph Dewes (April 8, 1845 – December 21, 1922) was a Chicago brewer and millionaire. Born in Losheim, near Trier in Prussia on April 8, 1845, he was the son of Peter Dewes, a brewer and member of the German parliament. Francis Dewes emigrated to the United States of America in 1868 and settled in Chicago. There he found employment as a bookkeeper for established brewing companies such as Rehm and Bartholomae and the Busch and Brand Brewing Company. After rising through the ranks, he founded his own successful brewing firm—F. J. Dewes Brewery Company—in 1881, which would become City Brewing Company in 1898. Shortly thereafter Dewes took over the presidency at the Standard Brewery. Albert Dewes
Albert Evelyn Dewes (April 1860 – 5 July 1892) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played two first-class matches for Auckland between 1882 and 1884. Dewes worked as a solicitor in Auckland. He died at his home in the Auckland suburb of Parnell of influenza and tuberculosis. He left a widow and four young daughters. Graham Dewes
Graham Charles Dewes (born 24 January 1982 in Suva) is a Fijian rugby union player. He plays as a prop. Career Dewes got his first cap for Fiji on 26 May 2007 in a 30–15 win over Japan. He was a member of the Fiji squad that entered the 2007 Rugby World Cup finals, playing in four matches and scoring the winning try in the 38–34 win over Wales putting Fiji through to their first quarter final in 20 years. Fiji lost that quarter final to eventual winners South Africa despite drawing 20-all for a period in the 2nd half. He had 7 caps by the end of the competition. His mother is Rotuman from Noa'tau, Rotuma. Before his selection into the 2007 squad he had only played third division rugby in the NPC in New Zealand. He played in Auckland's age grades through to U-23s, and Thames Valley in the NPC. He played for Counties Manukau Steelers in New Zealand.
