Dewees, Texas
Dewees is a ghost town in Wilson County, Texas, United States, a few miles southwest of Poth, Texas, Poth. The town was founded at the end of the American Civil War, Civil War by the brothers John Oatman Dewees and Thomas Dewees, who became very successful cattlemen, delivering tens of thousands of Texas Longhorn cattle annually from their ranching operations in the area. School, store, and gin Dewees had a school for many years, but there are no visible remains of it. Schneider's Store, on the other hand, remains in operation, for over 85 years (since 1932), and there are a few houses near it. The store's owner for its first 65 years, "Aunt Helen" Schneider, had a poodle that would start barking at customers at closing time. As of 1998, she had 30 nieces, 17 nephews, 61 great-nieces, 65 great-nephews, 184 great-great-nieces and -nephews, and 37 great-great-great-nieces and -nephews, making a total of 394 people who might properly call her "Aunt Helen". Wilson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 49,753. Its county seat is Floresville. The county is named after James Charles Wilson. Poth ( ) is a town in Wilson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2020 census. It is part of the San Antonio metropolitan area. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km), all of it land. This is about 35 mi (56 km) southeast of Downtown San Antonio. Demographics As of the 2020 United States census, there were 1,819 people, 504 households, and 433 families residing in the town. At the 2000 census there were 1,850 people, 623 households, and 490 families in the town. The population density was 579.7 people per square mile (223.9/km). There were 663 housing units at an average density of 207.7 per square mile (80.2/km). The Texas Longhorn is an American list of cattle breeds, breed of beef cattle, characterized by its long horns, which can span more than from tip to tip. It derives from cattle brought from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas by Spanish conquistadores from the time of the Second Voyage of Columbus, Second Voyage of Christopher Columbus until about 1512. For hundreds of years the cattle lived a semi-feral existence on the rangelands; they have a higher tolerance of heat and drought than most European breeds. It can be of any color or mix of colors. Gonzales, Texas
Gonzales is a city in Gonzales County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat. The population was 7,165 at the 2020 census. The "Come and Take It" flag in the War for Texas Independence from Mexico originated in Gonzales. Its economy is enhanced through lodging oil field workers from the nearby Eagle Ford Shale. It was the site of the first battle of the Texas Revolution. History Gonzales is one of the earliest Anglo-American settlements in Texas, the first west of the Colorado River. It was established by Empresario Green DeWitt as the capital of his colony in August 1825. DeWitt named the community for Rafael Gonzáles, governor of Coahuila y Tejas.
