Devotion (1950 Film)
''Devotion'' (Italian title ''L'edera'') is a 1950 Italy, Italian melodrama film directed by Augusto Genina. The film is adapted from the famous Italian novel ''L'Edera (novel), L'Edera'' written by Grazia Deledda and published in 1908. Synopsis Annesa (played by Columba Dominguez), is a from a declining aristocratic family and very much devoted to her family, the Decherchi, which is at the edge of financial collapse. The fate of the family depends on the success of their efforts to inherit the estate of a distant uncle who, is hosted by the Decherchis, because of his ill health and is now on the verge of dying. Annesa, exacerbated by the refusal of the uncle to help financially Annesa's financially strapped nephew Don Paulu Decherchi (played by Roldano Lupi), that she is secretly in love with, murders the uncle. Augusto Genina
Augusto Genina (28 January 1892 – 18 September 1957) was an Italian film pioneer. He was a movie producer and director. Biography Born in Rome, Genina was a drama critic and wrote comedies for the ''Il Mondo'' Magazine, under advise of Aldo de Benedetti switches to movies for the "Film d'Arte Italiana", that produces his first film "La moglie di sua eccellenza". In 1929 Genina moved to France to direct Louise Brooks in sonorized film ''Miss Europe''. He studied sound techniques and worked in France and Germany in same but alternate languages film versions which were filmed simultaneously, before his return to Italy. He won Venice Film Festival Mussolini's cup for Best Italian Film twice, in 1936 by ''Lo squadrone bianco'' and in 1940 by ''The Siege of the Alcazar'', both Fascist propaganda films. Nino Pavese (10 April 1904 – 21 December 1979) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Born in Asti and the younger brother of actor and voice actor Luigi Pavese, he began his career on stage with a theatrical troupe in the early 1930s before moving on to cinema. Gualtiero Tumiati ( 8 May 1876 – 23 April 1971) was an Italian actor and stage director. Life and career Born in Ferrara, Tumiati studied at the College of the Oaks in Florence and there he attended the acting courses held by Luigi Rasi. He later graduated in law and while working as an apprentice lawyer at his father's law firm he started performing in some local stage companies. Tumiati's breakout role was Cyrano de Bergerac in a critically acclaimed representation of the Edmond Rostand's eponymous play held in 1910. With his wife, the actress and painter Beryl Hight, in 1928 Tumiati founded the "Sala Azzurra" ("Blue Room"), one of the first Avant-garde theaters in Italy.
