Devilsdorp
''Devilsdorp'' is a South African four-part true crime documentary television series directed by David Enright and narrated by Jana Marx. It depicts and analyses the 11 killings in Krugersdorp, West Rand by the group Electus per Deus (Chosen by God) between 2012 and 2016, dubbed the Appointment Murders and the Satanic Murders. It was released on Showmax on 29 July 2021. An official companion podcast hosted by Nicole Engelbrecht was released alongside the series. Episodes Production Research for the project took place over the course of 18 months, incorporating real-life interviews. It was co-created and developed by Kristen Broberg and Executive Producer, Wim Steyn (IdeaCandy) and directed by David Enright. The series was edited by Nikki Comninos and Christiaan Scheepers. Showmax uses a localisation strategy to take on established video on demand competitors with a focus on local content and partnerships with mobile telcos. In South Africa Showmax has managed to out compete eight domestic competitors. It continues to compete with international video steaming services Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video. Showmax is a part of MultiChoice Group (which itself is a spin-off of Naspers, owner of 30.86% stake in Tencent which owns a similar service, Tencent Video and iflix). Krugersdorp
Krugersdorp (Afrikaans for ''Kruger's Town'') is a mining city in the West Rand District Municipality, West Rand, Gauteng Province, South Africa founded in 1887 by Marthinus Wessel Pretorius, Marthinus Pretorius. Following the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand, a need arose for a major town in the west of the reef. The government bought part of the Paardekraal farm and named the new town after the South African Republic, Transvaal president, Paul Kruger. Krugersdorp no longer has a separate municipal government after it was integrated into Mogale City Local Municipality along with surrounding towns. It is now the seat of government for Mogale City. West Rand
The West Rand is the name of the urban western part of the Witwatersrand that is functionally merged with the Johannesburg conurbation. This area became settled by Europeans after a gold-bearing reef discovered in 1886 and sparked the gold rush that gave rise to the establishment of Johannesburg. The West Rand extends from Randfontein in the west to Roodepoort in the east, and includes the town of Krugersdorp. The areas of Carletonville and Westonaria are sometimes included as being part of the Far West Rand. The areas are economically linked to the city through the gold mining industry.
