Devil In The Flesh (1989 Film)
''Devil in the Flesh'' is an Australian film adapted from the French novel '' Le Diable au corps''. It is directed by Scott Murray, who is best known for being the editor of ''Cinema Papers''. Murray adapted the film to be set in rural Victoria during World War II. Shooting and Release The film was shot over seven weeks in central Victoria in towns such as Bendigo, Castlemaine, and Dunolly, starting 1 May 1985. Its working title was ''Marie-Claire''. The film was screened at the 25th International Critics' Week of the 1986 Cannes Film Festival The 39th Cannes Film Festival was held from 8 to 19 May 1986. The Palme d'Or went to '' The Mission'' by Roland Joffé. The festival opened with ''Pirates'', directed by Roman Polanski and closed with ''El Amor brujo'', directed by Carlos Saura. ..., but it didn't get a theatrical release till early 1989. ''Le Diable au corps'' (''The Devil in the Flesh'') is an early 1923 novel by Parisian literary prodigy Raymond Radiguet. In the immediate aftermath of World War I World War I (28 July 1914 11 November 1918), often abbreviated as WWI, was one of the deadliest global conflicts in history. Belligerents included much of Europe, the Russian Empire, the United States, and the Ottoman Empire, with fightin ..., the story of a young married woman who has an affair with a sixteen-year-old boy while her husband is away fighting at the front provoked a scandal. Though Radiguet denied it, it was established later that the story was in large part autobiographical. Critics, who initially despised the intense publicity campaign for the book's release (something not normally associated with works of literary merit at the time) were finally won over by the quality of Radiguet's writing and his sober, objective style. International Critics' Week
The International Critics' Week (french: Semaine de la Critique) was founded in 1962 and is organized by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics. It was created following the showing of '' The Connection'' directed by Shirley Clarke which had been organized by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics for the 1961 Cannes Film Festival.
