The Devas Club for Young People (the Devas Institute until 1970) is a youth club in Battersea, south London, England, which provides sporting, educational and creative opportunities for disadvantaged youth. History The Devas Institute was founded by Jocelyn Devas, a student at University College, Oxford, in 1884, as a ‘Club for Working Lads’ with the aim of providing young men with job skills. The club was originally called University College House and was in a room above a coffee shop in Stewarts Road. Following Jocelyn Devas's death eighteen months after founding the club, in a climbing accident on the Matterhorn, his father offered a substantial endowment if his college friends would carry on the work in Battersea. Oxford House helped the club early in its development. The Devas Institute was constituted first under a scheme set up by the Charities Commissioners in 1901, when University College Oxford and then Battersea Polytechnic Instiute provided members of the Man ... Anthony Devas
Thomas Anthony Devas (8 January 1911 – 21 December 1958) was a British portrait painter who was associated with members of the Euston Road School. Early life Thomas Anthony Devas, known as Anthony, was born in Bromley in Kent, on 8 January 1911, the second of four children to Thomas Gronow Devas, the chairman of the Devas Routledge textile firm, and Marjorie Cecilia Watson. Devas attended Repton School and entered the Slade School of Fine Art in 1927, aged 16. At the Slade he studied alongside Rodrigo Moynihan, William Coldstream and Robin Darwin. In 1931 Devas married his fellow Slade student Nicolette Macnamara, whose sister Caitlin would later marry Dylan Thomas. Through the Macnamara sisters Devas met, and was influenced in his portrait painting by, Augustus John. Devas (band)
Devas are a Romanian music band formed in the spring of 2010 in Cluj Napoca. The band consists of Cristian Şerbănescu (violin), Dragoş Cucoş (synthesizer) and Ionuţ Cataramă (violin). Their goal is to produce "''inspirational music for your soul''". They currently have only one album Androginal Symphonicity and they have performed an international tour with it. They have been invited several times to perform on national and local TV (Prima TV, KanalD TV, Antena 1, Antena 2, TVR Iasi, MIx TV Brasov), and radio ( Radio Romania Actualitati, Radio BV, Radio Iasi). Charles Stanton Devas (26 August 1848 – 6 November 1906) was an English political economist. Life Charles Stanton Devas was born in Woodside, Old Windsor on 26 August 1848. He was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, where he took a first class in the honours School of Law and History. Before proceeding to the university he had been received into the Roman Catholic Church and his subsequent career was entirely devoted to the service of religion. Dewas is a city in the Malwa region of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The municipality was formerly the seat of two 15-Gun Salute state princely states during the British Raj, Dewas Junior state and Dewas Senior state, ruled by the Puar clan of the Marathas. The hill has a temple of the deities Devi Tulja Bhawani, Chamunda Mata and Kalika Mata. The word Dewas is believed to be a sandhi of the words Dev (deity) and Vas (abode in Marathi), so Dewas means ''house of the god''.
