Devaraj–Mohan
Devaraj–Mohan was a directing duo of the Indian film industry, mainly of Tamil Tamil may refer to: * Tamils, an ethnic group native to India and some other parts of Asia **Sri Lankan Tamils, Tamil people native to Sri Lanka also called ilankai tamils **Tamil Malaysians, Tamil people native to Malaysia * Tamil language, nativ ...-language films. They were known for quality films made on a low budget, thus giving a very reasonable profit for almost every film. The duo is also notable for launching one of the most prolific Indian composers, Ilaiyaraaja through their film '' Annakili''. Actor Sivakumar played the lead in most of their films. After 1980, the duo split and S. Devarajan directed some films. Mohan died in January 2012 due to a head injury. A remake of the 1978 Kannada film ''Parasangada Gendethimma'', itself based on Srikrishna Alanahalli's novella of the same name, the film stars Sivakumar, Deepa and Sivachandran, with Vinu Chakravarthy and Nagarathnamma in supporting roles. Set in British-ruled India, it revolves around a modern woman who cannot tolerate her rustic husband and her mother-in-law, and engages in an extramarital affair. Poonthalir () is a 1979 Indian Tamil-language film, directed by Devaraj–Mohan, starring Sivakumar and Sujatha. The music was scored by Ilaiyaraaja. The film was a remake of Hindi film ''Aakhri Khat'' (1966). The film, Sivakumar's 101st as an actor, was a success. Plot Ashok (Sivakumar), an artist/sculptor, falls in love with and marries Maya, a poor Keralite woman ( Sujatha), but they become separated when Ashok leaves for a prolonged assignment in the USA. When he comes back after a few years and looks for his wife, he receives a letter from her that conveys a strange message to him and he soon finds out that she has died due to a terminal illness and that their child (master Anand)has gone missing.
