Det Norske Solistkor
Det Norske Solistkor (The Norwegian soloists' choir) is a professional choral ensemble founded in Oslo in 1950 by the composer Knut Nystedt in collaboration with Kåre Siem. Nystedt conducted the group until 1990, when he was succeeded by Grete Pedersen. It is formed of today 26 singers, varied in performance depending on the literature. The ensemble is the only professional choir in Norway besides the chorus of the Oslo Opera. They have toured to France, Germany, the U.S., Korea, China and Israel. Knut Nystedt
Knut Nystedt (3 September 1915 – 8 December 2014) was a Norwegian orchestral and choral composer. Early life Nystedt was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway, and grew up in a Christian home where hymns and classical music were an important part of everyday life. His major compositions for choir and vocal soloists are mainly based on texts from the Bible or sacred themes. Old church music, especially Palestrina and Gregorian chants, have had a major influence on his compositions. Career Nystedt studied with Aaron Copland among others. He was the organist in the Torshov Church in Oslo from 1946 to 1982 and taught choir conducting at the University of Oslo from 1964 to 1985. Nystedt founded and conducted the Norwegian Soloists' Choir from 1950 to 1990. He also founded and conducted the Schola Cantorum from 1964 to 1985. Kåre Siem
Kåre Siem (8 June 1914 – 23 June 1986) was a Norwegian musician and writer. Early and personal life Siem was born in Kristiania, to Sverre Julius Siem and Elida Annette Antonsen. He was married to Evy Christophersen from 1942 to 1959, and to dancer Alice Mürer from 1960. Career Siem studied piano with Nils Larsen, Erling Westher and Ivar Johnsen. He made his concert debut as pianist in 1938, and toured widely in Norway and internationally until his playing career was interrupted by an injured elbow. He started writing music for film and theatre, worked as kapellmeister and conductor, contributed to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, and was a columnist for the newspaper '' VG''. An active participant in the , he co-edited several songbooks, jointly with Thorbjørn Egner and Yukon Gjelseth. Grete Pedersen (born 1960) is a Norwegian choral conductor and former footballer. Career in music She is noted for her work with Det Norske Solistkor which she has conducted since 1990. She often features Scandinavian repertoire, but her recordings include a critically acclaimed version of the Bach motets. She has also worked as a guest conductor abroad, for example with the BBC Singers (the BBC's professional chamber choir). The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet ( no, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, links=no) is a Norwegian opera company and ballet company. The first fully professional company each for opera and ballet in Norway and the only such professional organisation in the country, it is currently resident at the Oslo Opera House, since the spring of 2008. History Founded in 1957, the company had Kirsten Flagstad as its first general manager, from 1958 to 1960, and placed an emphasis on presenting operas and ballets written by Norwegian composers, and Norwegian as the standard language of the opera singers. Motet (Bach)
It is uncertain how many motets Johann Sebastian Bach composed, because some have been lost, and there are some doubtful attributions among the surviving ones associated with him. There is a case for regarding the six motets catalogued BWV 225–230 as being authenticated, although there is some doubt about one of them, ''Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden''. A seventh motet, ''Ich lasse dich nicht'', BWV Anh. 159, which was formerly attributed to Bach's older cousin Johann Christoph Bach, appears to be at least partly by J.S. Bach, and if so was probably composed during his Weimar period. BWV 228 is another motet which appears to have been written at Weimar, between 1708 and 1717, the others having been composed in Leipzig. Several of the motets were written for funerals. There is some uncertainty as to the extent that motets would have been called for in normal church services—there is evidence that the form was considered archaic. BIS Records is a record label founded in 1973 by Robert von Bahr. It is located in Åkersberga, Sweden. BIS focuses on classical music, both contemporary and early, especially works that are not already well represented by existing recordings. The company has recorded the complete works of Sibelius.
