Desperado City
''Desperado City'' is a 1981 West German drama film written and directed by Vadim Glowna. It won the Caméra d'Or at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival. The film takes place in Hamburg. Skoda ( Siemen Rühaak) is a former student from a rich family. His father is a banker. Skoda is looking for an alternative life, away from the capitalist opulence of his childhood home. He stays with Eva Buchholz, with whom he begins a love story after she buys him a taxi. The film follows Skoda on his nightly rides through the city, and though different characters come and go. He takes his taxi to St. Pauli. Here Skoda meets the girl Liane, a kindred spirit in the form of a teenage woman who finds her own home life equally difficult to shoulder, who is just as fed up with her life as he is. She just quit her hairdressing training. The two now spend the days together and dream of emigrating to America. Vadim Glowna
Vadim Glowna (; 26 September 1941 – 24 January 2012) was a German actor and film director. Since 1964 he appeared in more than 150 films and television shows. He directed the 1983 film '' Dies rigorose Leben'', which won an Honourable Mention at the 33rd Berlin International Film Festival. In 1989, he was a member of the jury at the 39th Berlin International Film Festival. Three years later, his film '' Rising to the Bait'' was entered into the 42nd Berlin International Film Festival. Vera Tschechowa
Vera Wilhelmowna Rust (born 22 July 1940), known as Vera Tschechowa, is a German producer, director, screenwriter, and retired actress, of Russian descent. She appeared in more than 50 films between 1957 and 1996. She was widely known as Elvis Presley's companion, particularly in connection with his Oral Poliomyelitis Vaccine (OPV) public booster-advocacy and which they both undertook during Presley's first year in Germany with the U.S. Army (1959). Her mother, Ada Tschechowa, was the daughter of Michael Chekhov and Olga Chekhova. Vera herself appeared, on 6 June 1971, as one of 28 women under the banner "We've had abortions!" ("Wir haben abgetrieben!") on the cover page of the West German magazine, ''Stern''. In that issue, 374 women publicly stated that they had had pregnancies terminated, which at that time was illegal. Witta Pohl
Witta Pohl ( Breipohl; 1 November 1937 – 4 April 2011) was a German actress. Life Born in the East Prussian city of Königsberg, she was one of six children to Wilhelm Breipohl, a gynaecologist, and his wife Marie-Luise, née Klönne. During World War II, her family moved to Bielefeld, where Pohl grew up. After working as a beautician, she attended drama school in Berlin to become a stage actress. Her most popular role however was that of "Vera Drombusch" in the highly successful television drama series Diese Drombuschs from 1983 to 1994. She died from leukemia in Hamburg in 2011 aged 73.
