Paul Desmarais Sr. (January 4, 1927 – October 8, 2013) was a Canadian financier and philanthropist, based in Montreal. With an estimated family net worth of US$4.5 billion (as of March 2012), Desmarais was ranked by ''Forbes'' as the fourth wealthiest person in Canada and 235th in the world in 2013. Lorraine Desmarais C.M. (born August 15, 1956) is a French-Canadian jazz pianist and composer. Early life and education Born in Montreal, she earned a Bachelor of Music (1977) and Master of Music (1979) in classical piano at Université de Sherbrooke. She studied with Armas Maiste at McGill University in 1978 and 1979, and later took lessons from Kenny Barron in New York. She has also been influenced by Chick Corea and Oscar Peterson. Odilon Desmarais, (February 27, 1854 – May 18, 1904) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented Saint-Hyacinthe in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1890 to 1892 and St. James in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1901 as a Liberal. He was born in Joliette, Canada East, the son of Jean-Baptiste Desmarais and Émérentienne Beauchamps, and was educated at the Collège de Joliette and McGill University. Desmarais articled in law with Alexandre Lacoste, was called to the Quebec bar in 1876 and practised in Saint-Hyacinthe with Honoré Mercier and in Montreal. Charles Desmarais (born April 21, 1949) is the Art Critic for the ''San Francisco Chronicle''. A native of the Bronx, Desmarais earned a bachelor's and master's degree from the State University of New York, Buffalo, and was a 1983 participant in the Museum Management Institute (later the Getty Leadership Institute program of the Getty Foundation). Louis R. Desmarais (16 February 1923 – 25 March 2017) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a Chartered Accountant by career. In 1968, he became president of Les Entreprises de Transport Provincial limitée, and he was president of Canada Steampship Line, whose head manager in Quebec City was André Poliquin.
