Desert Stormer Stakes
The Desert Stormer Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares age three and older run over a distance of six furlongs on the dirt held annually in May at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. History The inaugural running of the event was on 8 November 1997 as the Desert Stormer Handicap over a distance of furlongs at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California as the first race on the undercard for the Breeders' Cup program. The event was named in honor of Desert Stormer, winner of the 1995 Breeders' Cup Sprint. The following year the event was moved to the spring meeting and held in late April. In 1999 the distance of the event was decreased to six furlongs. The event was upgraded to Grade III in 2001. However, the event was downgraded to a non-graded stakes after the 2005 Grade III edition. Breeders' Cup Sprint
The Breeders' Cup Sprint is an American Weight for Age Grade I Thoroughbred horse race for horses three years old and older. Run on dirt Corrected grade for Santa Anita sprintover a distance of 6 Furlongs ( mile), the race has been held annually since 1984 at a different racetrack in the United States or Canada as part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. Automatic Berths Beginning in 2007, the Breeders' Cup developed the Breeders' Cup Challenge, a series of races in each division that allotted automatic qualifying bids to winners of defined races. Each of the fourteen divisions has multiple qualifying races. Note though that one horse may win multiple challenge races, while other challenge winners will not be entered in the Breeders' Cup for a variety of reasons such as injury or travel considerations. Jerry Hollendorfer (born June 18, 1946, in Akron, Ohio) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse Horse trainer, trainer whose notable horses include Eclipse Award winners Blind Luck, Shared Belief and Songbird (horse), Songbird. He has the most wins in the history of Northern California race horse trainers. In 2011, he was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, US Racing Hall of Fame. Jerome S. Moss (born May 8, 1935) is an American recording executive, best known for being the co-founder of A&M Records, along with trumpet player and bandleader Herb Alpert. Music career After graduating from Brooklyn College with a degree in English and serving in the United States Army, Moss began his music career by promoting "16 Candles", a 1958 hit for the Crests on Coed Records. In 1960 he moved to California, where he teamed up with Alpert, forming Carnival Records in 1962 and running the company from an office in Alpert's garage.
