Deseronto Storm
The Deseronto Storm were a Junior ice hockey team based in Deseronto, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Empire B Junior C Hockey League but are former original members of the Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League. History 2006-07 The Thunder filled a gap left since 1998 in the Deseronto community. The Quinte Hawks of the Metro Junior A Hockey League left a troubled legacy in the town of Deseronto. The team moved to Bancroft, Ontario after the Metro folded in 1998. In early 2006, it became quite apparent that hockey was coming back to the town. As a member of the new renegade GMHL, the Thunder hope to bring junior hockey back to Deseronto for good. The Deseronto Thunder's first ever game took place on September 9, 2006 against the South Muskoka Shield in Deseronto, Ontario. The Thunder were victorious, romping the Shield by a score of 8-1. Deseronto, Ontario
Deseronto is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, in Hastings County, located at the mouth of the Napanee River on the shore of the Bay of Quinte, on the northern side of Lake Ontario. The town was named for Captain John Deseronto, a native Mohawk leader who was a captain in the British Military Forces during the American Revolutionary War. More extensive development began with sale of village tracts by Deseronto's grandson John Culbertson in 1837. The Mohawk of the nearby Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory originally controlled the townsite as well. This is the most easterly municipality of Hastings County. It was a center of industry related to timber and mineral resources until the 1930s. In the 21st century, Deseronto, located 5 km from Highway 401, is the eastern gateway to the Bay of Quinte tourist region, with the Skyway Bridge providing access to Prince Edward County. Bancroft, Ontario
Bancroft () is a town located on the York River in Hastings County in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was first settled in the 1850s by United Empire Loyalists and Irish immigrants. From the mid-1950s to about 1982, mining was the primary industry. A village until 1999, Bancroft then merged with Dungannon Township to form the Town of Bancroft. The population at the time of the 2016 Census was 3,881; the regional population is 40,000. There are 150,000 visitors to Bancroft, annually. History By 1823, the government had purchased nearly two million acres of land from the Chippewa and Mississaga First Nations including a tract on the York River in Hastings County which had been established in 1792. Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks
The West Nipissing Lynx are a junior ice hockey team based in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks were announced in summer 2010. The Lumberjacks replaced the folded Nipissing Alouettes, who left the GMHL in 2009. On September 10, 2010, the Lumberjacks played their first game against the Elliot Lake Bobcats in Elliot Lake. The Bobcats won the game 7–2. On September 12, 2010, the Lumberjacks played on the road against the Powassan Dragons and earned their franchise's first victory with a 5–2 win. In their second season, the Lumberjacks finished second place in the GMHL with a record of 35 wins and 7 losses. The Toronto Blue Ice Jets were a Junior ice hockey team based out of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. The team played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Jets were Thornhill's only Junior hockey team after the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League's Toronto Thunderbirds relocated to King City to become the Villanova Knights. They were founded as the Toronto Canada Moose in the inaugural year of the GMHL in the 2006–07 season as one of seven original league members. The Colborne Cramahe Hawks were a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Colborne, Ontario. The Hawks were members of the World United Hockey League. Competing in the Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League from 2007 until 2014, the Hawks originated as the Douro Dukes of Douro, Ontario in 2007. From 2008 until 2014, the team was known as the Bucks from Beaverton, Ontario and later Bobcaygeon, Ontario. History The Douro Dukes were one of six expansion teams for the 2007–08 GMHL season. History The Lakers are one of six expansion teams for the 2007-08 GMHL season. On September 6, 2007, the Innisfil Lakers played their first ever game in franchise history against the Douro Dukes in Ennismore, Ontario. The game resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Lakers. The Cochrane Crunch are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based out of Cochrane, Ontario, Canada. The Tamworth Cyclones were a Junior ice hockey team based in Tamworth, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League. History The Cyclones are one of six expansion teams for the 2007-08 GMHL season. The Cyclones were a team known for brawls and always drew a crowd at home or on the road. They had some extremely tough players and also some very talented players who went on to have very successful careers. Bob Russell (ice Hockey)
Robert Russell (born February 5, 1955) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Early life Russell was born in Toronto, Ontario. As a youth, he played in the 1967 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Toronto Faustina minor ice hockey team. Career Russell is an alumnus of the Sudbury Wolves and was a member of their first ever Ontario Hockey League team in 1972. He was selected in the sixth Round, 105th overall, in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He was also drafted in the ninth round, 117th overall in the 1975 WHA Amateur Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. He played two seasons in the World Hockey Association with the Edmonton Oilers. The Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) is a Canadian developmental junior ice hockey league. The league has primarily had teams in the Greater Toronto Area, Central Ontario, Northeastern Ontario, and Quebec. In 2019, they added three teams from Alberta. Bradford Rattlers
The Bradford Rattlers are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based out of Bradford, Ontario, and members of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League. The Rattlers, then known as the Bradford Bulls, were bought out towards the end of the 2005–06 season by a local group of investors for the purpose of moving the team up to Junior "A" from the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League. History The Bradford Vasey Juniors were founded in 1971 as they joined the South-Central Junior "D" Hockey League. The league soon became the Central Junior "C", then the Mid-Ontario Junior "C", and finally after merging with the Georgian Junior "C" league became the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior "C" Hockey League.
