Desanka Perović-Pešut ( sr-cyr, Десанка Перовић-Пешут, 14 October 1941 – 8 June 2021) was a Serbian shooting sports, sport shooter. She was born in Vrbas, Serbia, Vrbas. She competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics for Yugoslavia. At the ISSF World Shooting Championships, 1970 World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix, United States, she won one gold and two silver medals and received a golden badge for the best athlete of Yugoslavia of that year. Vrbas, Serbia
Vrbas ( sr-Cyrl, Врбас; hu, Verbász) is a town and municipality located in the South Bačka District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. As of 2011, the town had a population of 24,112, while the municipality had 42,092 inhabitants. Name Its name stems from the word "Willow" in the Serbian language. During the SFRY period, the town was renamed ''Titov Vrbas'' (meaning "the Vrbas of Tito"), after Josip Broz Tito. Like all other towns in Socialist Yugoslavia named after Tito, the first part was dropped once the new states were formed during the early 1990s. In Rusyn, the town is known as ''Вербас'', in Hungarian as ''Verbász'', in Croatian as ''Vrbas'', in German as ''Werbass'', and in Turkish as ''Verbas''. ''Sportske novosti'' awards ( hr, Nagrade Sportskih novosti) refer to annual sports awards given by ''Sportske novosti'', a Zagreb-based Croatian daily sports newspaper. The awards originated in the 1950s and went on to become one of the most prestigious Croatian awards in sports. The winners are decided by polling sports journalists. History ''Sportske novosti'' was founded in 1945 and it first began awarding the ''Yugoslav Sportsman of the Year'' and ''Yugoslav Sportswoman of the Year'' awards in 1950 for greatest achievements in Yugoslav sports. Vera Nikolić
Vera Nikolić (Serbian Cyrillic: Вера Николић; 23 September 1948 – 28 June 2021) was a Serbian middle-distance runner, who competed at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, and later coach. She had her best achievements in the 800 m event, in which she won European titles in 1966 and 1971 and set a world record, 2:00.5, on 20 July 1968 holding it until 11 July 1971. She came to the 1968 Olympics as a favorite, but due to the pressure of being the favorite she gave up her semifinal – after leading it for 300 m she suddenly stepped off the track, walked back to the start, sat down and took off her shoes. She set her personal best in 800 m in finishing fifth in the final at 1972 Olympics.
