Des Nisbet
John Desmond Nisbet (29 October 1921 – 29 November 2004) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Nisbet, a defender, was originally from Rochester and also played football at Caulfield City prior to playing 110 games for St Kilda. Nisbet served in the Australian Army during World War II. Nisbet was runner-up in the 1947 senior best and fairest award. He then served as coach of the St Kilda seconds. From 1958 to 1983 he was Chairman of Selectors for St Kilda. In 2008 he was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame. Caulfield, Victoria
Caulfield is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Glen Eira local government area. The Rochester Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Tigers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club, formed at a meeting held on 8 June 1874 at Tidy's Restdown Hotel. The club was formed with the purpose of soon "playing and beating Echuca". An intense rivalry that has endured ever since regardless of which competition each was playing in. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Darryl Nisbet
Darryl A. Nisbet (born 16 June 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A defender recruited from Oakleigh Districts, Nisbet made one league appearance for St Kilda, in round 21 of the 1970 VFL season, against Collingwood at Moorabbin Oval. Nisbet coached Berwick to premierships in 1979 and 1980. He was also in charge of Cranbourne when they won three successive premierships from 1985 to 1987. In 2008 he was named as an assistant coach in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League Team of the Century. 1970 VFL Season
The 1970 VFL season was the 74th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, and ran from 4 April until 26 September. It was the first season to play comprise a 22-game home-and-away season, which became the standard for the following fifty years, and which was followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The season saw the opening of the league's privately owned stadium, VFL Park, in Mulgrave. The premiership was won by the Carlton Football Club for the tenth time, after it defeated by ten points in the 1970 VFL Grand Final. A crowd of 121,696 attended the match, the all-time record for the highest Australian rules football crowd.
