Des Moroney
Desmond Joseph Moroney (February 15, 1935 – February 11, 2018) was a Canadian/Swedish professional ice hockey player. Moroney played in North American minor leagues like the Eastern Hockey League, International Hockey League and the Western Hockey League. He also played in Europe, in the British National League and the Swedish Hockey League. His professional career lasted from 1955 through 1980. Ice hockey career Moroney played junior ice hockey for the St. Michael's Buzzers and the Toronto St. Michael's Majors from 1952 to 1954. He joined the Barrie Flyers in 1955, and later moved to the Philadelphia Ramblers of the Eastern Hockey League while still a junior. He then attended Michigan State University for two years. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. The Society for International Hockey Research (SIHR) is a network of writers, statisticians, collectors, broadcasters, academics and ice hockey buffs. The society, based in Toronto, Ontario, has an international membership. The society cultivates and encourages the study of ice hockey. Philadelphia Ramblers (EHL)
The Philadelphia Ramblers were a minor professional ice hockey team based in the Philadelphia Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Ramblers played for nine seasons in the Eastern Hockey League from 1955 to 1964. After the end of the 1963-64 season, the team relocated to Cherry Hill, New Jersey and were renamed the Jersey Devils (not to be confused with the NHL team). Former members of the EHL Ramblers included Ted Harris (1956–58), future Toronto Maple Leafs coach John Brophy and goalie Ross Brooks who was one of the oldest rookies in the NHL playing for the Boston Bruins in the early 1970s. Barrie Flyers
The Barrie Flyers were a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey Association from 1945 to 1960, from Barrie, Ontario. The Flyers played home games at the Barrie Arena from 1945 to 1960. History The Barrie Flyers junior team was founded in 1945 by Leighton "Hap" Emms. The franchise was soon affiliated with the Boston Bruins of the NHL. Barrie quickly became a powerhouse in the OHA. They appeared in the Memorial Cup three times, losing the first time in 1948, then winning twice, in 1951 and 1953.
