Derrimut is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Brimbank Local government area. Derrimut recorded a population of 8,651 at the 2021 census. Located on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people, of the Kulin Nation, Derrimut is bounded by Foleys Road to the north, Robinsons Road to the west, the Western Ring Road to the east and Boundary Road to the south. Derrimut is a newly developed suburb in Melbourne. It is named after Derrimut, a nineteenth-century Aboriginal Elder. Derrimut Post Office opened on 1 June 1866 in the rural area, but closed in 1918. 2021 Australian Census
The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. The 2021 Census took place on 10 August 2021, and was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Electoral District Of Derrimut
Derrimut was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was located in the western suburbs of Melbourne and contained the suburbs of Albion, Derrimut as well as parts of St Albans and Sunshine. It was first created in the redistribution undertaken before the 1985 election where it was easily won by the Labor Party's David Cunningham he held the seat until it was abolished before the 1992 election with Cunningham contesting and winning the seat of Melton. However the seat was re-established prior to the 2002 election where it was won by Telmo Languiller whose seat of Sunshine was abolished in the same redistribution. Derrimut was again abolished in 2014, with Languiller shifting to the seat of Tarneit. Derrimut (also spelt Derremart or Terrimoot) ( – 20 April 1864), was a headman or arweet of the Boonwurrung (Bunurong) people from the Melbourne area of Australia.Ian D. Kulin Nation
The Kulin nation is an alliance of five Aboriginal nations in south central Victoria, Australia. Their collective territory extends around Port Phillip and Western Port, up into the Great Dividing Range and the Loddon and Goulburn River valleys. Before British colonisation, the tribes spoke five related languages. These languages are spoken by two groups: the Eastern Kulin group of Woiwurrung, Boonwurrung, Taungurung and Ngurai-illam-wurrung; and the western language group of just Wathaurung. The central Victoria area has been inhabited for an estimated 40,000 years before European settlement.
