Derrie Fakhoury
Derrie Fakhoury (1930–2015) was a Lebanese artist. Life Fakhoury was born in Beirut in 1930, and studied painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Beirut. She traveled to Italy to continue her studies in art at the Accademia di belle arti di Roma. Then she joined the Institute of Medal Art of Rome and she excelled in this area. Inspired by her visits to churches and museums in Italy, she studied the art of wall painting (Fresco) at the Decorative Arts Institute and became proficient in this art. After returning from Italy, She lived with her husband, the late famous Syrian painter and plastic artist Mahmoud Hammad Mahmoud Hammad (1923–1988) was a Syrian Painting, painter and pioneer of modern Syrian art. Mahmoud Hammad
Mahmoud Hammad (1923–1988) was a Syrian Painting, painter and pioneer of modern Syrian art. Life and career Hammad was born 1923 in Jarabulus, Syria. He studied art at the Accademia di belle arti di Roma between 1953 and 1957. He focused on the art of engraving and especially the art medals. After completing his studies he returned to Damascus in 1960 and taught as professor at the Fine Arts Faculty of Damascus since its creation. From 1970 until 1980, he became dean at the Fine Arts Faculty of Damascus. In 1939, he started exhibiting his work throughout most Arab countries, Europe and the United States. In 1948, he received first prize in Arts in Damascus Exhibition, in 1957, first prize at the competition of the city of Naples, and in 1959, first prize at the competition of Ministry of Culture in United Arab Republic. The Lebanese people ( ar, الشعب اللبناني / ALA-LC: ', ) are the people inhabiting or originating from Lebanon. The term may also include those who had inhabited Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains prior to the creation of the modern Lebanese state. The major religious groups among the Lebanese people within Lebanon are Shia Muslims (27%), Sunni Muslims (27%), Maronite Christians (21%), Greek Orthodox Christians (8%), Melkite Christians (5%), Druze (5.2%), Protestant Christians (1%). The largest contingent of Lebanese, however, comprise a diaspora in North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Africa, which is predominantly Maronite Christian. Fine Arts Academy In Beirut
The Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA; french: Académie libanaise des Beaux-Arts; ar, الأكاديمية اللبنانية للفنون الجميلة) was originally a stand-alone Lebanese institute, now one of the faculties at the University of Balamand, teaching courses in fine art. It was founded in 1937, and it was the first national institution of higher education in Lebanon.
