Derrick Ramon White (born October 12, 1969) is a former American professional baseball first baseman. He played for three seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Montreal Expos (1993), the Detroit Tigers (1995), and the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies (1998). He also played one season in the KBO League for the Lotte Giants (2000), and one season in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hanshin Tigers (2002). Derrick White (basketball)
Derrick White (born July 2, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played three years of college basketball in Division II for the UCCS Mountain Lions before transferring to the Division I Colorado Buffaloes for his final season. White was selected 29th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2017 NBA draft. In February 2022, he was traded to the Celtics and became a key contributor for the team when they reached the NBA Finals. High school career White attended Legend High School, a brand new high school in Parker, Colorado, and was a part of its first graduating class. As a freshman on the basketball team, he played with 11 other freshman en route to one win in league play. As a senior, White averaged 17.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Derrick O'Clancy White was a writer and political activist originally from Dublin who was a parliamentary candidate initially for the Scottish National Party and then latterly for the Scottish Socialist Party in the Lothians. Early life White was the youngest of three sons of Captain Jack White (1879–1946), one of the co-founders in the great Dublin lock-out of 1913 of the Irish Citizen Army and a veteran of numerous left-wing organisations, and grandson of Field Marshal Sir George White VC, who was known for holding Ladysmith during its siege during the Boer War. His maternal great-grandfather was J.J. Clancy and his paternal great-grandfather was Joseph Baly.Keohane (2014) page,233 White's father died when he was three.
