Deroceras Rodnae
''Deroceras rodnae'' is a species of air-breathing land slug, a terrestrial molluscs, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Agriolimacidae. Taxonomy ''Deroceras rodnae'' was originally described from the Rodna Mountains in Romania by Romanian malacologists Alexandru Vasile Grossu and Dochiţa Lupu in 1965. The figure in the original description is inadequate, but Wiktor (1973) inspected the type specimen and found it to agree with one of the forms of ''Deroceras praecox'' that he had described at about the same time (Wiktor, 1966). The name ''Deroceras rodnae'' has priority for that form and ''Deroceras praecox'' is now restricted to a form with a curved pocket at the end of the penis. Recently Hutchinson & Reise (2009) showed that western populations of ''Deroceras rodnae'' mate in a way so incompatible with that of populations from the east that they must be different species. The morphological differences in preserved specimens are subtle but molecular analyses ...

Alexandru Vasile Grossu
Alexandru is the Romanian language, Romanian form of the name Alexander. Common diminutives are Alecu, Alex (other), Alex, and Sandu (other), Sandu. Origin Etymology, Etymologically, the name is derived from the Greek language, Greek "Αλέξανδρος" (Aléxandros), meaning "defending men" or "protector of men", a compound of the verb "ἀλέξω" (alexō), "to ward off, to avert, to defend" and the noun "ἀνδρός" (andros), genitive of "ἀνήρ" (anēr), "man". It is an example of the widespread motif of Greek (or Indo-European more generally) names expressing "battle-prowess", in this case the ability to withstand or push back an enemy shield wall, battle line. The earliest attested form of the name is the Mycenaean Greek feminine noun ''a-re-ka-sa-da-ra'', (transliterated as ''Alexandra''), written in Linear B syllabic script. The name was one of the titles ("epithets") given to the Greek goddess Hera and as such is usually taken to mean "one wh ...

Deroceras Juranum
''Deroceras juranum'' is a species of air-breathing land slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Agriolimacidae. Taxonomy Wüthrich (1993) described ''Deroceras juranum'' from the Jura Mountains in Switzerland, distinguishing it from the co-occurring ''Deroceras rodnae'' on the basis of ''Deroceras juranums distinct violet coloration. Later the same coloration was found in Austrian populations by Jordaens et al. (1998) and in other species of ''Deroceras'' by Reise & Hutchinson (2001). Reise (1997) demonstrated that the violet coloration was controlled by a single Mendelian-inherited gene and thus considered ''Deroceras juranum'' to be a variety of ''Deroceras rodnae''. It is treated thus in Wiktor’s (2000) monograph of the Agriolimacidae. Hutchinson & Reise (2009) later realised that what had been considered ''Deroceras rodnae'' was actually two species with radically different mating behaviours and consistent, although subtle, differences in morphol ...

Reproductive System Of Gastropods
The reproductive system of gastropods (slugs and snails) varies greatly from one group to another within this very large and diverse taxonomic class of animals. Their reproductive strategies also vary greatly, see Mating of gastropods. In many marine gastropods there are separate sexes (male and female); most terrestrial gastropods however are hermaphrodites. Courtship is a part of the behaviour of mating gastropods. In some families of pulmonate land snails, one unusual feature of the reproductive system and reproductive behavior is the creation and utilization of love darts, the throwing of which has been identified as a form of sexual selection. Gastropods are defined as snails and slugs, belonging to a larger group called Molluscs. Gastropods have unique reproductive systems, varying significantly from one taxonomic group to another. They can be separated into three categories: marine, freshwater, and land. Reproducing in marine or freshwater environments makes getting s ...

Deroceras Praecox
''Deroceras praecox'' is a species of small air-breathing land slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Agriolimacidae. Taxonomy When Wiktor (1966) described ''D. praecox'' he distinguished two forms on the basis of their genitalia. Later Wiktor (1973) realised that one of the forms of ''D. praecox'' that he had distinguished was synonymous with '' Deroceras rodnae'', described slightly earlier by Grossu & Lupu (1965). But the other form with a spiral end to its penis occupied a distinct range in the Sudeten mountains and neighboring areas; this is what is called ''D. praecox'' nowadays. It remains debatable whether ''D. praecox'' might be better viewed as a subspecies of ''D. rodnae'' ( Hutchinson & Reise, 2009). Note that the distinct differences in mating behaviour between ''D. praecox'' and ''D. rodnae'' that Reise (1995) reported turn out to refer to differences between ''D. praecox'' and a more distant species, '' Deroceras juranum'' ( Hutchinson & ...
