Dermot McCurtain
Dermot M. MacCurtain (born 6 April 1957) is an Irish former hurler and selector. At club level he played with Delanys, Blackrock and St. Michael's and was also a member of the Cork senior hurling team. Early life Born and raised in Cork, MacCurtain first played hurling and Gaelic football as a schoolboy with Coláiste Iognáid Rís. He was a member of the school team that won the Dean Ryan Cup in 1974 before securing a Harty Cup-Corn Uí Mhuirí double in 1975. Club career MacCurtain began his club career at juvenile and underage levels with the Delanys club on the northside of Cork city before transferring to the Blackrock club as a 16-year-old in February 1974. Success at underage level was immediate with Blackrock securing the Cork MHC title that year before later winning consecutive Cork U21HC titles. By that stage MacCurtain had already joined the club's senior team and was a used substitute when Blackrock were beaten by St. Finbarr's in the 1974 final. He b ...

Blackrock National Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located on the southside of Cork City, Ireland. The club was founded in 1883 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. No other Cork-based GAA club has won more Senior County Hurling titles or All-Ireland Club Championships. The club is sometimes known as 'The Rockies'. History Blackrock Hurling Club was officially founded in 1883, one year before the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association itself. It is therefore the oldest hurling club in Cork. Until 1888 the club was known as Cork Nationals, when it changed its name to National Hurling Club of Blackrock, and later in the same year to Blackrock National Hurling Club. The 1975 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 87th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The championship began on 13 April 1975 and ended on 14 September 1975. St. Finbarr's entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Seandún in the quarter-finals. The final was played on 14 September 1975 at the Mardyke Grounds in Cork, between Blackrock and Glen Rovers, in what was their first meeting in the final in two years. The 1978–79 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship was the ninth season of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier club hurling tournament. The All-Ireland series began on 28 January 1979 and ended on 25 March 1979. St. Finbarr's were the defending champions, however, they failed to qualify. Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with eight titles. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. By the early 1970s there were two competing clubs in existence in the parish, Ballyhale and Knocktopher, however, they were both facing extinction. All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Club Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Club Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county club hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year since the 1970-71 championship (except for 2020-2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
