Derek Rickard
Derek Bryan Philip Rickard (born 1 October 1947) is an English former professional footballer. He played as a forward for Football League clubs Plymouth Argyle and Bournemouth. Playing career Rickard joined hometown club Plymouth Argyle in December 1969 as a 22-year-old, making his debut against Halifax Town. He made an immediate impact and was voted as the club's player of the year in 1970, having been there just under six months. He made 121 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 42 goals. His best season came in 1971–72 when he scored 14 goals in just 19 league appearances. He joined Bournemouth in 1974 and spent two years with the Cherries, making 32 league appearances. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. As with any attacking player, the role of the forward relies heavily on being able to create space for attack. Torpoint ( kw, Penntorr) is a civil parish and town on the Rame Peninsula in southeast Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated opposite the city of Plymouth across the Hamoaze which is the tidal estuary of the River Tamar. Torpoint had a population of 8,457 at the 2001 census, decreasing to 8,364 at the 2011 census. Two electoral wards also exist ( Torpoint East and Torpoint West). Their combined populations at the same census were 7,717. Torpoint is linked to Plymouth (and Devonport) by the Torpoint Ferry.
