Derek Pascoe
Derek Pascoe (born 1957) is a British musician now based in Adelaide, South Australia. He was the singing, vocalist and saxophonist in pop band Flintlock (musical group), Flintlock in the 1970s. He is a member of the jazz performance academic staff of the Elder Conservatorium of Music and has collaborated with a number of musicians in musical and spoken word performances. Biography Pascoe trained as a saxophonist from the age of 15, after being inspired by a performance on television. He was the vocalist and saxophonist in Flintlock (previously known as the Young Revivals). He appeared as himself in the TV show ''You Must be Joking'' and in every episode of ''Pauline's Quirkes'' (with Pauline Quirke) in 1976. Flintlock played cover versions of a variety of songs in both series. He appeared in a two-part episode of the children's science fiction programme ''The Tomorrow People'', "The Heart of Sogguth" in 1977, in which the band's music was used to revive an ancient demon. Flintlock (musical Group)
Flintlock were a 1970s pop music, pop musical ensemble, group from Essex, England. Its members were Derek Pascoe (human voice, vocals/saxophone), Mike Holoway (drums/percussion instrument, percussion), Jamie Stone (bass guitar, bass/human voice, vocals), John Summerton (guitar/human voice, vocals) and Bill Rice (keyboard instrument, keyboards). Career The group began under the name The Young Revivals, but after two years changed their name to Flintlock. They came to national attention in the mid-1970s through regular appearances on the British children's television programmes ''You Must Be Joking! (TV series), You Must Be Joking'' and ''Pauline's Quirkes'', the latter hosted by the then teenage actress Pauline Quirke. The Shaolin Afronauts
The Shaolin Afronauts are an Afrobeat band based in Adelaide, Australia. Their music is heavily influenced by West African Afrobeat artists such as Fela Kuti, but also incorporates elements of avant-garde jazz, Soul music, soul and other traditional African music, African and Cuban music, Cuban percussive rhythms. They describe their music as "interstellar futurist afro-soul". Career 2008–2010: Origins and style Founded in 2008 out of a fascination with Afrobeat and creative Musical improvisation, improvised music, seven out of the ten band members were also members of The Transatlantics, who met at the University of Adelaide. The Australian Music Centre (AMC), formerly known briefly as Sounds Australian, is a national organisation promoting and supporting art music in Australia, founded in 1974. It co-hosts the Art Music Awards along with APRA AMCOS, and publishes ''Resonate Magazine''.
