Derek King (Australian Footballer)
Derek King (7 September 1948 – 28 April 2014) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the late 1960s. King came into the St Kilda senior side after making his way up from the thirds but couldn't establish himself in the VFL. A rover, he played briefly in Western Australia with Swan Districts before joining Oakleigh in the Victorian Football Association. He played his best football at Oakleigh, winning two Association best and fairest awards: the first division's J. J. Liston Trophy in 1975, and then the second division's J. Field Trophy in 1977, when he polled a record 67 votes. he also placed second by a single vote for the Liston Trophy in 1976, and third in 1970. Clinton King
Clinton King (born 24 March 1978) is an Australian rules footballer who played for Sydney, Collingwood and Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL). Recruited from Eastern Ranges, King played five AFL games in 1996, the year Sydney made a drought breaking Grand Final appearance. He was traded to Collingwood in 1998 and the following season missed a lot of football after suffering a foot stress fracture. Collingwood off-loaded King after the 1999 season, so they could get a ruckman in Steven McKee to their club. He broke a leg in his first year at Richmond but re-established his place in the team during the 2001 season and was a member of their finals campaign. King appeared in the Preliminary Final loss to Brisbane and performed admirably with 21 disposals. King headed to South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club South Adelaide in 2004 and won a Knuckey Cup in his first year at the club. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Brighton Football Club
Brighton Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). The club was based in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and was nicknamed the Penguins. After suffering financial hardship throughout the 1950s, Brighton moved to Caulfield and became the Caulfield Bears in the early to mid-1960s. History An advertisement in '' The Argus'' on 8 June 1859 announced a meeting to be held on the 9th of that month, at the Devonshire Hotel, to form the Brighton Football Club. There are references to an active Brighton Park club in 1867, and Brighton Football club in 1872, 1878, 1882 and 1883. Those clubs may or may not have been connected. Caulfield Football Club
Caulfield Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association, VFA from 1965 until 1987 when due to financial difficulties the club folded. History Origins The Camden Town Football Club was based in the South Caulfield area and had been in existence from at least 1898. In 1910 they entered a side in the Federal Football Association Junior competition. They won the premiership in 1911. Play was suspended for the World War I. After the war the club resumed and changed its name to South Caulfield and joined the VJFA. In 1922 the club won lower grade premiership. In 1926 until 1940 the club competed in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, MAFA. While the senior team was in the Amateurs, in 1939 a junior side was formed and entered the Federal Football League B grade competition using its original name of Camden.
