Sir Derek William Jones, KCB is Chair of the Prince's Trust in Wales, Board Director (non-executive) of IQE, Chair of Keolis UK and served as permanent secretary to the Welsh Government between 2013 and 2017. Jones was born in Rumney, Cardiff and studied philosophy at Cardiff University. He started his civil service career at Whitehall, London after graduation. After undertaking the post-graduate training scheme he joined HM Treasury, and then held positions in the Department of Trade and Industry. Jones then joined the Welsh Office in Cardiff in 1989, as Head of Industrial Policy. Derek John Claremont Jones (; 2 July 1927 – 4 October 2008) was a British and Hong Kong government official and a Senior Fellow of the Trade Policy Research Centre in London. He originally served in the Civil Service and was posted to the Hong Kong Government in 1971. In Hong Kong, he was the first to hold the post of Secretary for Economic Services under the reform in 1973 and had served as Secretary for the Environment, Secretary for Transport and Official Legislative Councillor before he was posted to Brussels serving as Minister for Hong Kong Relations with European Community and Member States in 1982. He subsequently retired from the government in 1986. Jones is currently the cornerbacks coach for Virginia Tech Hokies football, serving under first-year head coach Brent Pry. He played cornerback in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and Arena Football League (AFL). Early life Jones was born in Woodruff, South Carolina.
