Derek Grierson
Derek Dunlop Grierson (5 October 1931 – 7 September 2011) was a Scottish football player who played mainly as an inside right, best known for his time with Rangers and Falkirk. Career Club Grierson started out at Queen's Park before manager Bill Struth brought him to Rangers in 1952. He made his competitive debut in a 5–0 defeat against Heart of Midlothian on 9 August. He scored his first and second goals for the club a week later in a League Cup match against Aberdeen. In his four seasons at Rangers, Grierson scored 64 goals in total. He won the Scottish league championship and Scottish Cup in his first season, 1952–53, and was the club's top scorer with 31 goals in the three major competitions, including four in one match against Airdrieonians. He also won a Glasgow Cup in 1953. He is noted as scoring the first ever live goal on British television. Scottish League Cup
The Scottish League Cup (also known as the Viaplay Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a football competition open to all Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) clubs. First held in 1946–47, it is the oldest national League Cup in existence. The competition had a straight knockout format but became a group and knockout competition from 2016–17. Rangers are the record holders of the cup, winning 27 times. Celtic are the holders, winning their 20th title after beating Hibernian 2–1 at Hampden Park on 19 December 2021. The Football tournament at the 1952 Summer Olympics was won by Hungary. The games signalled the arrival (to Western Europeans at least) of the Hungarian national football team – the "Magical Magyars". Ferenc Puskás later said of the 1952 competition: "It was during the Olympics that our football first started to flow with real power." The original Wembley Stadium (; originally known as the Empire Stadium) was a stadium in Wembley, London, best known for hosting important football matches. Newton Mearns ( sco, The Mearns; gd, Baile Ùr na Maoirne ) is a suburban town and the largest settlement in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It lies southwest of Glasgow City Centre on the main road to Ayrshire, above sea level. Robert Crossan Morrison (16 February 1933 – 1999) was a Scottish footballer who played mainly as an inside right. Career Morrison began his senior career with Falkirk, impressing sufficiently in a 'trial' match between the club and a Scotland XI in late 1954 to be selected for the ' Scotland B' team against the same opponents a few months later alongside several ''Bairns'' colleagues, although this did not lead on to a full international cap. In January 1957, he transferred to defending Scottish champions Rangers in a swap deal with Derek Grierson, and made a strong start at Ibrox with a goal on his debut in an Old Firm Scottish Cup tie (a 4–4 draw; Celtic won the replay), then scored six times in five league matches as the ''Gers'' clinched the 1956–57 Scottish Division One title – despite his input, it is unclear if Morrison received a winner's medal due to the low number of matches he played. Glasgow Cup
The Glasgow Cup is a football tournament open to teams from Glasgow, Scotland. Operated by the Glasgow Football Association, it was competed for annually by senior Glasgow clubs from 1887 until 1989. It is now (since the 2019–20 amended rules) competed for between the senior teams of Clyde, Partick Thistle and Queen's Park and the youth teams of Celtic and Rangers, and has used both knockout and round robin formats to determine the finalists. The cup was dominated by the city's Old Firm rivals, Rangers and Celtic, who won the competition 44 times and 29 times respectively (including one shared win) while it was a senior competition. Airdrieonians Football Club is a Scottish professional football team in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, who are members of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) and play in Scottish League One. They were formed in 2002 as Airdrie United Football Club following the liquidation of the original Airdrieonians club, formed in 1878.
