Derek Angus
Derek Alan Angus (born 21 February 1938) is a former New Zealand politician of the National Party. He served as MP for Wallace from 1981 to 1990. Early life and family Angus was born in Lumsden on 21 February 1938, and educated at Waitaki Boys' High School. In 1961, he married Thelma Frances Hazley, and the couple went on to have three children. Angus played representative rugby union for Northern Southland, West Otago and South Otago. He spent 25 years working as a stock buyer for a freezing company. Political career Angus served as a Winton borough councillor for six years. He was later elected to the Southland District Council and the Southland Regional Council in 1989. He was a member of the Guardians of Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri, and served on the Southland Conservation Board. Wallace (New Zealand Electorate)
Wallace was a New Zealand parliamentary electorate. It was established in 1858, the first election held in 1859, and existed until 1996. For a time, it was represented by two members. In total, there were 18 Members of Parliament from the Wallace electorate. Population centres The initial 24 New Zealand electorates were defined by Governor George Grey in March 1853, based on the New Zealand Constitution Act 1852 that had been passed by the British government. The Constitution Act also allowed the House of Representatives to establish new electorates, and this was first done in 1858, when four new electorates were formed by splitting existing electorates. Wallace was one of those four electorates, and it was established by splitting the electorate. Settlements in the initial area were Invercargill, Gore, Mataura, and Riverton. The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal was a commemorative medal awarded in New Zealand in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, and was awarded to approximately 3,000 people. Background The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal was instituted by Royal Warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 9 February 1990. It was to be awarded only during 1990 to about 3,000 people selected in recognition of the contribution they have made to some aspect of New Zealand life, especially the various 1990 celebrations. Subsequently 3,632 medals were awarded. Queen's Service Medal
The Queen's Service Medal is a medal awarded by the government of New Zealand to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office. It was established in 1975 and is related to the Queen's Service Order. The QSM replaced the Imperial Service Medal as an award of New Zealand. Appearance 1975–2007 The original medal was made of sterling silver, in diameter. The obverse bears the same effigy of The Queen as the badge of the Queen's Service Order. Surrounding the effigy are the Royal styles and titles "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.".
