Sir Derek Henry Andrews, KCB, CBE (17 February 1933 – 13 March 2016) was an English civil servant. Educated at the London School of Economics, he joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in 1957 after completing National Service, and spent much of his career working on the Common Agricultural Policy. He was the ministry's Permanent Secretary from 1987 to 1993, leading it during the BSE and Salmonelli crises of the late 1980s. Knight Companion Of The Order Of The Bath
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred. Sir Richard John Packer, KCB, (born 18 August 1944) is a former British civil servant. He was Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) from 1993 until 2000. He was knighted ( KCB) in 2000. Sir Richard Packer was educated at City of London School and initially trained as a scientist at the Victoria University of Manchester. He had a distinguished civil service career being the youngest Permanent Secretary ever appointed to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, a post he held for seven years until 2000. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. Milk Marketing Board
The Milk Marketing Board was a producer-run product marketing board, established by the Agricultural Marketing Act 1933, to control milk production and distribution in the United Kingdom. It functioned as buyer of last resort in the milk market in Britain, thereby guaranteeing a minimum price for milk producers. It also participated in the development of milk products, introducing Lymeswold cheese. It was based at Thames Ditton in Surrey. Advertising From the 1950s onwards, there were several memorable advertising campaigns by the Milk Marketing Board. Slogans included "full of natural goodness", "is your man getting enough?", "milk's gotta lotta bottle" (written by the advertising executive Rod Allen), and "drinka pinta milka day" designed by the advertising agency Ogilvy.
