Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1952 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for eighty one years. It was their forty-eighth season in the County Championship and they won eleven matches and lost eight to finish fourth in the County Championship. 1952 season Derbyshire played 28 games in the County Championship, and one match against the touring Indians. They won eleven matches altogether. Guy Willatt was in his second year as captain. Charlie Elliott was top scorer and C Gladwin took most wickets for the club and was fifth nationally. Derbyshire County Cricket Club Seasons
This is a list of seasons played by Derbyshire County Cricket Club in English cricket, from the club's formation in 1870. Early years 1871–1887 Derbyshire played their first matches in 1871. For the first three years their only opponents were Lancashire. When Kent joined in 1874, by a quirk of scoring which was based on games lost, they were County Champion. The club was bedevilled by financial problems, and in 1888 the sporting press decided no longer to accord them first class status. Wilderness years 1888–1893 From 1888 Derbyshire's matches were not accorded first class status. However the club continued to play first class counties and most of the players carried on with the club. Alan Revill
Alan Chambers Revill (27 March 1923 – 6 July 1998) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1946 and 1957 and for Leicestershire from 1958 to 1960. He scored more than 15,000 first-class runs. Revill was born in Sheffield, the son of Thomas who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1913 and 1920. Revill's career began at Derbyshire where he appeared in the non first-class programme in 1945. He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in the 1946 season at Ilford against Essex in May, scoring 31 and 48. He finished the year with 616 runs and played regularly for the county until the end of the 1957 season. with a career-best 156 not out against Leicestershire in 1949. Derek Morgan (cricketer)
Derek Clifton Morgan (26 February 1929 – 4 November 2017) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire County Cricket Club between 1950 and 1969, captaining the side between 1965 and 1969. An all-rounder, he is the only Derbyshire cricketer besides Leslie Townsend to have achieved the double of 10,000 runs and 1,000 wickets. Morgan was born in Muswell Hill, London. He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in the 1950 season against Northamptonshire in May, when he took two wickets in the first innings and was not out in his only batting innings. He played occasionally for the second XI but was soon established as a first team regular. In the 1951 season he took 6 for 93 against Gloucestershire. Edwin Smith (cricketer, Born 1934)
Edwin Smith (born 2 January 1934) is a former county cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1951 and 1971 and took over 1200 wickets. Smith was born in Grassmoor, Derbyshire. He played his entire first-class career for Derbyshire, playing 503 First Class matches in a career spanning 20 years from 1951 to 1971. Smith was primarily an off-spin bowler and took 1217 first-class wickets at an average of 25.84, with 51 5 wicket innings and a best performance of 9 for 46. He was also a useful lower middle order batsman and scored nearly 7000 runs with a highest score of 90. Kent County Cricket Club
Kent County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Kent. A club representing the county was first founded in 1842 but Kent teams have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century, and the club has always held first-class status. The current Kent County Cricket Club was formed on 6 December 1870 following the merger of two representative teams. Donald Carr
Donald Bryce Carr OBE (28 December 1926 – 12 June 2016) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire from 1946 to 1967, for Oxford University from 1948 to 1951, and twice for England in 1951/52. He captained Derbyshire between 1955 and 1962, and scored over 10,000 runs for the county. His cricket administration roles included twelve years as assistant secretary to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), taking over as secretary of the fledgling Test and County Cricket Board in 1976. In his ten years in that role, cricket writer, Colin Bateman noted that Carr "mixed diplomacy with a sense of justice as first the Packer Affair, and then the first rebel tour to South Africa, threatened to split the world game". Albert Rhodes
Albert Ennion Groucott Rhodes, universally known as "Dusty" Rhodes (10 October 1916 – 17 October 1983), was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire County Cricket Club between 1937 and 1954 and was also a Test match umpire. Rhodes was born at Tintwistle, Cheshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in the 1937 season against Surrey in May in a match which saw the fall of only one wicket before being concluded as a draw. Later in the season he took 6 for 38 against Somerset. In the 1938 season he scored 107 not out against Warwickshire and had two 5-wicket innings. After an uneventful season in 1939, Rhodes peak career was interrupted by the Second World War. In the 1946 season he took 7 for 109 against Glamorgan and achieved three more five wicket innings. Glamorgan County Cricket Club ( cy, Criced Morgannwg) is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Glamorgan ( cy, Morgannwg). Founded in 1888, Glamorgan held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship before the First World War. In 1921, the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to first-class status, subsequently playing in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England and Wales. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881.
