''Derana Film Awards'' (Sinhala:දෙරණ සිනමා සම්මාන) is an award bestowed to distinguished individuals involved with the Sri Lanka's silver screen, each year by the TV Derana, Sri Lanka in recognition of the contributions made by them to the Sri Lankan cinema industry and cinema achievements. The Derana Film Awards ceremony is one of the most popular cinema award events in Sri Lanka. TV Derana
Derana TV is a Sri Lankan private entertainment terrestrial television channel broadcasting in Sri Lanka. Launched on 11 October 2005, it is one of the most popular television networks in the country. Its main transmission tower is on the Kikilimana mountain, and coverage is extended nationwide via eight transmission towers. The channel is available on digital medium through Dialog TV, PEO TV and the newly launched OTT platform GLUUOO. Kasun Kalhara
Kasun Kalhara Jayawardhana ( Sinhala: කසුන් කල්හාර ජයවර්ධන ) (born 3 November 1981), known professionally as Kasun Kalhara, is a Sri Lankan singer, musician, vocal coach and record producer. During his musical career, Kasun has released three albums, ''Haritha Nimnaye'', ''Radical Premaya'' and ''Romantic Opera''. He is one of the biggest and best-selling music artists in Sri Lanka. Biography Kasun was born in Rajagiriya, Sri Lanka on 3 November 1981. His mother, Malani Bulathsinhala, was a veteran vocalist and his father H. M. Jayawardena was a renowned composer. ''Ranja'' ( si, රන්ජා) is a 2014 Sri Lankan Sinhala action thriller film directed by Sudesh Wasantha Peiris and produced by Sunil T. Fernando for Sunil T. Films. It was distributed as the sequel of Ranjan Ramanayake's film '' One Shot One'' in 2005. Uresha Ravihari Wickremasinghe, (born 26 June 1982; as උරේෂා රවිහාරී inhala, is a Sri Lankan songstress. Gayathri Khemadasa
Gayathri Khemadasa is a Sri Lankan composer and contemporary classical pianist. Born in 1976 in Colombo, she is the daughter of Premasiri Khemadasa. She was educated at Ladies College, Colombo and studied music at the Prague Conservatory and Masaryk University, Czech Republic. She began performing in public in 2005, in order to raise money for the victims of the 2004 Asian tsunami. In 2011, she was awarded a Fulbright Professional Scholarship and became a visiting scholar at Wesleyan University where she began writing an opera on Phoolan Devi. In 2015, at the Derana Film Awards, Khemadasa became the first Sri Lankan woman to win a national award for Best Original Score with the film Thanha Rathi Ranga. Sando Harris
Sando Harris, (18 May 1963 – 11 June 2021; si, සැන්ඩෝ හැරිස්), popularly known by his stage names Sando Harris and Sergeant Nallathambi, was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, theater, and television. With a career spanned more than three decades, Sando was a popular comedian in theater and cinema. Apart from comedy acting, he was also a stunt actor, producer, director and singer. Personal life He was born on 18 May 1963 in kirulapone, Sri Lanka to a family of eight. He received his primary education at Arethusa College, Wellawatte, and secondary education from Isipathana College and Zahira College, Colombo. He died on 11 June 2021 at the age of 58. Sri Lankabhimanya Lester James Peries ( Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකාභිමාන්‍ය ලෙස්ටර් ජේම්ස් පීරිස්; 5 April 1919 – 29 April 2018) was a Sri Lankan film director, screenwriter, and film producer. Considered as the father of Sri Lankan cinema, Lester worked as a filmmaker from 1949 to 2006, and was involved in over 28 films, including shorts and documentaries. He received critical acclaim for directing ''Rekava'', '' Gamperaliya'', ''Nidhanaya'', ''Golu Hadawatha'', '' Kaliyugaya'', ''Awaragira'' and ''Yuganthaya''.
