The Deputy Comptroller of the Navy was a principal member of the Navy Board of the Royal Navy who was responsible for chairing the Committee of Correspondence and managing all internal and external communications of the Navy Board from 1793 to 1816 and then again from 1829 to 1832. He was based at the Navy Office. History The post of the Deputy Comptroller of the Navy was created in 1793 primarily to relive the Comptroller of the Navy of some of his duties. Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas Byam Martin, (25 July 1773 – 25 October 1854) was a Royal Navy officer. As captain of fifth-rate HMS ''Fisgard'' he took part in a duel with the French ship ''Immortalité'' and captured her at the Battle of Tory Island during the French Revolutionary Wars. Sir Francis Hartwell, 1st Baronet
Sir Francis Hartwell, 1st Baronet (15 February 1757 – 28 June 1831) was a British Navy officer and Deputy Comptroller of the Navy from 1808 to 1814. He was born the son of Captain Broderick Hartwell, RN, of Dale Hall, Essex, later the lieutenant-governor of Greenwich Hospital. Admiral Sir Robert Barlow GCB (25 December 1757 – 11 May 1843) was a senior and distinguished officer of the British Royal Navy who saw extensive service in the American Revolutionary War, the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.
