Deputy Commander (horse)
Deputy Commander (foaled in 1994 in Kentucky – October 7, 2009) was an American Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse. Background Bred by Crystal Springs Farm near Paris, Kentucky, he was a son of Leading sire in North America, North American Champion sire Deputy Minister (horse), Deputy Minister and out of the Grade 1-winning turf mare (horse), mare, Anka Germania who captured the 1988 Sword Dancer Invitational over subsequent Eclipse-winning turf horse Sunshine Forever. He was sold by Denali Stud as a weanling at the November 1995 Keeneland Sales to Horizon Stable, a partnership put together by trainer Wallace Dollase. Racing career A late developer, Deputy Commander never made it to the 1997 Kentucky Derby. However, by autumn he had matured into a powerful colt who won the Travers Stakes and the Super Derby before running second to Skip Away in the 1997 Breeders' Cup Classic at Hollywood Park Racetrack. Deputy Minister (horse)
Deputy Minister (May 17, 1979 – September 10, 2004) was a Canadian-bred Thoroughbred horse racing Champion. At age two, he won eight out of his nine starts and was voted both the Sovereign and Eclipse Awards for Champion 2-Year-Old in Canada and the United States respectively. He also received Canada's Sovereign Award for Horse of the Year. Although his three-year-old campaign was restricted by injury, Deputy Minister rebounded at age four with several major wins. Retired to stud in 1984, Deputy Minister became an outstanding sire, leading the North American sire list in 1997 and 1998. His most famous offspring were Hall of Fame fillies Go For Wand and Open Mind, Belmont Stakes winner Touch Gold and Breeders' Cup Classic winner Awesome Again. Ten Most Wanted (February 24, 2000 – January 8, 2013) was an United States, American-bred Thoroughbred race horse and Horse breeding#Terminology, sire. Bred in Kentucky, he was owned by James Chisholm, Michael Jarvis and J. Paul Reddam. At the end of 2004, his fourth year, he had a record of 5–3–1 out of thirteen starts. In total, he won five of his 13 career starts. He retired from racing in 2004 and began his Stud (animal), stud career at Magali Farms stud farm in Santa Ynez, California, where he sired 71 stakes winners including Lady On the Run and Tenth Power. He died on January 8, 2013, at the age of 12 in Panama at the British Mist Breeding Station. He had been moved there in late November 2012 after being sold for more stud duty. Woodburn Stud was an American horse breeding farm located in Woodford County, Kentucky about ten miles (16 km) from the city of Lexington. It was established in the 18th century as an original land grant property of General Hugh Mercer to whom it had been granted for his military services during the American Revolutionary War. Hollywood Park Racetrack
Hollywood Park was a thoroughbred race course located in Inglewood, California, about 3 miles (5 km) from Los Angeles International Airport and adjacent to the Forum indoor arena. In 1994, the original Hollywood Park Casino was added to the racetrack complex. Horse racing and training were shut down in December 2013 though the casino operations continued until a new state of the art casino building, the new Hollywood Park Casino, opened in October 2016. The track was demolished in stages from 2014 until 2016 and the area is now the site of a master-planned neighborhood in development named Hollywood Park after the former track. Breeders' Cup Classic
The Breeders' Cup Classic is a Grade I Weight for Age thoroughbred horse race for 3-year-olds and older run at a distance of on dirt. It is held annually at a different racetrack as part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships in late October or early November. All of the races to date have been held in the United States except for the 1996 edition held at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada.
