The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is a part of the Government of New Brunswick. It is charged with maintenance of government facilities and the province's highway network. From 1855 to 1912, it was known as the Board of Public Works. From 1912 to 1967, it was known as Department of Public Works and Highways. In 1967, its functions were divided between the Department of Public Works and the Department of Transportation. In 2012, the Department of Transportation and the infrastructure management components of the Department of Supply and Services (the successor to the Department of Public Works) were merged back together. New Brunswick (french: Nouveau-Brunswick) is one of Canada's three Maritimes, Maritime provinces. Route 1 is a highway in the southern part of the Canadian province of New Brunswick. It begins in the west from the Canada–United States border at St. Stephen, and runs east for to Route 2 at River Glade. The entire highway is a 4-lane controlled-access freeway (from the Maine border to River Glade). It is one of the most important highways in the province, carrying traffic from the American border, through the City of Saint John (the industrial seat of the province and the oldest city in the country), to the highways end at the interchange with the Trans Canada Highway, just outside of Moncton. Route 95 is a provincial highway in New Brunswick, which connects Interstate 95 (I-95) at the Houlton–Woodstock Border Crossing near Houlton, Maine, United States to New Brunswick Route 2 (the Trans-Canada Highway) in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the construction of Route 95, the connection between the two cities was served by Route 5. In 2007 the New Brunswick government completed a roadworks project to turn Route 95 into a full freeway for its entire length. Route 2 is a major provincial highway in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, carrying the main route of the Trans-Canada Highway in the province. The highway connects with Autoroute 85 at the border with Quebec and Highway 104 at the border with Nova Scotia, as well as with traffic from Interstate 95 in the U.S. state of Maine via the short Route 95 connector. A core route in the National Highway System, Route 2 is a four-lane freeway in its entirety, and directly serves the cities of Edmundston, Fredericton, and Moncton. Passamaquoddy Bay (french: Baie de Passamaquoddy) is an inlet of the Bay of Fundy, between the U.S. state of Maine and the Canadian province of New Brunswick, at the mouth of the St. Croix River.
