Department of Archaeology ( bn, বাংলাদেশ প্রত্নতত্ত্ব অধিদপ্তর, ) is one of the government agency of Bangladesh. By the ''Laws of Archaeology 1964'' (amended in 1976) this agency maintains the conservation and preservation of archaeological sites in the country. Since 2013, the department has been running its activities from the Administration Building situated in Agargaon in Dhaka. History The organization was first founded in 1861 as a part of the Archaeological Survey of India. The Sixty Dome Mosque ( ''Shaṭ Gombuj Moshjid''; more commonly known as ''Shait Gambuj Mosque'' or ''Saith Gunbad Masjid''), is a mosque in Bagerhat, Bangladesh. Bagha Museum ( bn, বাঘা জাদুঘর) is a museum in the Bagha Upazila of Rajshahi District in Bangladesh. It was established in July 2012 and opened for public on 7 May 2015. History This museum is maintained by Department of Archaeology (Bangladesh). Though the construction was completed in July 2012, the museum was opened for the public on 7 May 2015. Schedule In summer it is open from 10 am to 6 pm. In the middle of the day from 1 pm to 1.30 pm for half an hour it will close. In winter, it is open from 9 am to 5 pm. Lalbagh Fort
Lalbagh Fort ( bn, লালবাগ কেল্লা) is a fort in the old city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Its name is derived from its neighborhood Lalbagh, which means Red Garden. The term Lalbagh refers to reddish and pinkish architecture from the Mughal period. The original fort was called Fort Aurangabad. Its construction was started by Prince Muhammad Azam Shah, who was the son of Emperor Aurangzeb and a future Mughal emperor himself. After the prince was recalled by his father, the fort's construction was overseen by Shaista Khan. The death of Shaista Khan's daughter Pari Bibi (Fairy Lady) resulted in a halt to the construction process, apparently due to Shaista Khan's superstition that the fort brought bad omen. Vasu Vihara or Vasu Bihar is one of the famous archaeological site in Bangladesh. Locally is popular by the name ''Narapatir Dhap''. It is one of the ancient Buddhist heritage of Bangladesh. Location It is situated in Shibganj Upazila of Bogra. It is located 6 kilometers west of Mahasthangarh. History In 1973–74, the excavation was started here and in the consecutive two session it was resumed. 18 ancient clay seals, mostly from the Pala dynasty, and two brick-built structures has been discovered by the archaeologists during an excavation. Description This complex has five mounds. Three of them are large and rest two are small. The small monastery is 49 meters north–south and east–west 46 meters.
