Dennyloanhead is a village in the Falkirk (council area), Falkirk Subdivisions of Scotland, council area, Central Region, Scotland, Central Scotland, that is between Head of Muir and Longcroft, Falkirk, Longcroft. Dennyloanhead had a fingerpost announcing that it is 294 miles from John o' Groats. Old maps show it is 9 miles from Stirling and 5 miles from Falkirk. Its main features include the Crown Hotel and Casserta's chip shop. There is another pub called the Railway Inn. Kilsyth And Bonnybridge Railway
The Kilsyth and Bonnybridge Railway was a railway line in central Scotland, built to exploit the mineral extractive industries in the area; it opened in 1888. A passenger service was run, but bus competition overwhelmed it after 1920 and the passenger service closed in 1935. The goods and mineral traffic continued, but it was dependent on the industries it served, and when they declined so did the business on the railway; it closed in 1964 and none of it is now in railway use. History Before the Kilsyth and Bonnybridge Railway Kilsyth and Bonnybridge had both become important industrial centres during the nineteenth century; the proximity of the Forth and Clyde Canal as a transport medium facilitated the development of industry, and coal mining and iron smelting had become particularly dominant. Alex Totten
Alex Totten (born 12 February 1946) is a Scottish former football player and manager. Playing career Growing up in Dennyloanhead, Stirlingshire, he signed for Liverpool straight from school in 1960 before signing for top division Dundee back in Scotland in 1964. After a season, he moved onto Dunfermline Athletic where he made nearly 30 top division league appearances over four seasons. In 1969, he moved on to Falkirk, racking up another 20 starts over his two seasons at Brockville and also scoring his first Senior goal. In July 1971 Totten transferred to Dumfries side Queen of the South and became a first team regular for the first time his career in the lower division. The last transfer of his playing days came in July 1973 with a move to Alloa Athletic where he wound down his on-field career and became manager in 1980. David Smiles Jerdan
David Smiles Jerdan FRSE (1871–1951) was a Scottish businessman and horticulturist. Life He was born on 12 July 1871 in Dennyloanhead in Stirlingshire in Central Scotland. His father was Rev Charles Jerdan, minister of St Michael Street Church in Greenock. He graduated MA from Glasgow University in 1892. He then did further postgraduate studies at the University of Heidelberg where he gained a PhD and Queen's College in Manchester, where he gained a DSc. He was Manager of J & G Cox Ltd, glue and gelatine manufacturers at Gorgie Mills in Edinburgh. From here he moved to the linked trade of tanning, becoming Manager of the Tannerie Maroquinerie in Brussels. He later returned to Scotland as Director of A & G Paterson Ltd timber merchants at 60 to 68 Tennant Street in Glasgow. In 1900, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Denny, Falkirk
Denny ( gd, Deanaidh) is a town in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. Historically in Stirlingshire, it is situated west of Falkirk, and northeast of Cumbernauld, adjacent to both the M80 and M876 motorways. At the 2011 census, Denny had a resident population of 8,300. History Denny is separated from neighbouring village Dunipace by the River Carron. A stone bridge was built over the river in 1825. Denny Town House was completed in 1931. Falkirk (; sco, Fawkirk; gd, An Eaglais Bhreac) is one of 32 unitary authority council areas of Scotland. It was formed on 1 April 1996 by way of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994 from the exact boundaries of Falkirk District, one of three parts of the Central region created in 1975, which was abolished at that time. Prior to the 1975 reorganisation, the majority of the council area was part of the historic county of Stirlingshire, and a small part, namely Bo'ness and Blackness, was part of the former county of West Lothian.
