Denny Myers
Dennis Edward Myers (November 10, 1905 – May 30, 1957) was an American football player and coach. He attended the University of Iowa, where he played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes football, Hawkeyes. He then signed with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL) and played two games as a Guard (gridiron football), guard with the team in 1931. Myers served as the head football coach at Boston College from 1941 to 1942 and again from 1946 to 1950, compiling a record of 35–27–4. Coaching career Myers left the NFL after one year and was hired as line coach at West Virginia University under Greasy Neale. Neale and Myers both moved to Yale University in 1934 to assist Ducky Pond. In 1936, Myers took the line coaching job at Brown University, where he worked for five years under Tuss McLaughry. Algona, Iowa
Algona is the county seat of Kossuth County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,487 at the 2020 census. Ambrose A. Call State Park is located two miles southwest of the city. History Algona was founded in 1854 and was named after the Algonquian word for "Algonquin waters". The 1942 college football season was the 74th season of intercollegiate football in the United States. Competition included schools from the Big Ten Conference, the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC), the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the Big Six Conference, the Southern Conference, the Southwestern Conference, and numerous smaller conferences and independent programs. The season was the first after the entry of the United States into World War II. 1942 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team
The 1942 Alabama Crimson Tide football team (variously "Alabama", "UA" or "Bama") represented the University of Alabama in the 1942 college football season. It was the Crimson Tide's 49th overall and 10th season as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The team was led by head coach Frank Thomas, in his 12th year, and played their home games at Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Legion Field in Birmingham and at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery. Frank Leahy
Francis William Leahy (August 27, 1908 – June 21, 1973) was an American football player, coach, college athletics administrator, and professional sports executive. He served as the head football coach at Boston College from 1939 to 1940 and at the University of Notre Dame from 1941 to 1943 and again from 1946 to 1953, compiling a career college football record of 107–13–9. His winning percentage of .864 is the second best in NCAA Division I football history, trailing only that of fellow Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach, Knute Rockne, for whom Leahy played from 1928 to 1930. DeOrmond "Tuss" McLaughry (May 19, 1893 – November 26, 1974) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania (1915–1916, 1918, 1921), Amherst College (1922–1925), Brown University (1926–1940), and Dartmouth College (1941–1942, 1945–1954), compiling a career college football record of 143–149–13.
