Hillcrest High School (Dallas)
Hillcrest High School, formerly Vickery Meadows High School is a public secondary school located in North Dallas, Texas ( USA). Hillcrest High School enrolls students in grades 9– 12 and is a part of the Dallas Independent School District. In 2018, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. History The school opened in 1938 as Vickery Meadows High School. In 1945 it was renamed to Hillcrest High School. Prior to the 1970s Hillcrest was known as "Hebrew High" due to the number of Jewish students enrolled. Campus The Franklin Stadium is located at Hillcrest. The SMU Mustangs men's basketball team represents Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas and currently competes in the American Athletic Conference of NCAA Division I college basketball. The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five Basketball positions, positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. 1967–68 ABA Season
The 1967–68 ABA season was the first season for the American Basketball Association. The ABA was challenging the National Basketball Association. The ABA introduced a red, white and blue basketball. They used a 30-second shot clock as opposed to the NBA's 24 second shot clock, and also used the three-point shot. There were 11 teams playing in the first season of the league, with each team playing a 78-game schedule. Dallas Chaparrals
The Dallas Chaparrals were a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA). The team moved to San Antonio, Texas for the 1973–74 season and were renamed the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the 1976–77 NBA season as a result of the ABA–NBA merger. Origin The team's founding owners, unable to agree on a name for the franchise during an early organizational meeting at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, named it for the Chaparral Club in which they were meeting. The team drew poor attendance and general disinterest in Dallas. They were lucky to attract crowds in the hundreds.
