Denny Curran
Denis ('Denny') Curran (6 December 1875 – 25 August 1968) was an Irish footballer and Fianna Fáil political figure. Early life The third son of Patrick Curran, a farmer of Ballyseedy, County Kerry, he was apprenticed as a grocer as a young man, and 'lived in' at Baily's in the Mall in Tralee. The Curran family descend from the Uí Charrain, of the Uí Meic Caille sept of the Uí Liatháin kingdom of Munster in southern Ireland; they settled in County Kerry as gentry after the war in 1177 between Domnall Mór Ua Briain, King of Thomond, and Diarmait Mor Mac Carthaigh. Football Curran began his footballing career in 1903; in an article in ''The Kerryman'' published 28 January 1961, he recounted how in summer he would begin training at the sports field at seven A.M., before working from nine A.M. to eleven P.M., and often being picked up from work by Austin Stack for evening training, missing dinner due to having to return to work. John Mitchels GAA (Kerry)
John Mitchels GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. They are based in the Boherbee and Camp area of Tralee. They play in Division 1 of the county league and in the Kerry Senior Football Championship. Club history Before 1927 only one team represented Tralee in the Kerry Senior Football County Championship and they were Tralee John Mitchels. As this team was so successful the Kerry County Board requested that it should be divided into three individual teams representing, Boherbee, Rock St. and Strand St, this is where the John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's clubs came from. The John Mitchels club since 1927 are thought to be one of the most successful clubs in Kerry. The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. Munster Senior Football Championship
The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year, bar one, since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Saturday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Munster Cup. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. Kerins O'Rahilly's are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Tralee, County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. They are based in the Strand Road area of the town. Micheál Quirke
Micheál 'Mike' Quirke (born 1980 in Tralee, County Kerry) is an Irish people, Irish former sportsperson and Gaelic football Manager (Gaelic games), manager. He played football for the Kerins O'Rahilly's GAA, Kerins O'Rahilly's club and was a member of the Kerry county football team, Kerry county team from 2003 onwards. He also played basketball. In retirement from playing, Quirke became a manager at inter-county level. Stephen Fuller
Stephen Fuller (1 January 1900 – 23 February 1984) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kerry North constituency from 1937 to 1943. Early life Fuller was born in Kilflynn, County Kerry, in 1900. He was the son of Ellie Quinlan and Daniel Fuller. His family was from Fahavane, in the parish of Kilflynn. War of Independence and the Civil War Fuller served in the Kilflynn IRA flying column during the War of Independence. He was 1st Lieutenant in the Kerry No.1 Brigade, 2nd Battalion. Fuller opposed the Anglo-Irish Treaty and continued to fight with the anti-Treaty IRA during the Irish Civil War. Military records from the 1930s show, in his own hand, that he was in communication with Dublin regarding confirmation of membership in July 1922 and therefore eligibility for war pensions (Fuller became the most senior Kilflynn member upon the death of Captain George O'Shea).
