Dennis Talbot
Dennis Alan Talbot (born 18 April 1954) is an Australian former boxing, boxer. His boxing career started from Mudgee in June 1969 and went on for a period of 15 years. He retired in April 1984 after successfully defending his lightweight title against Brett Young. Dennis traveled to every part of Australia and visited many parts around the World (New Caledonia, Fiji, Bahrain, Italy, Marreia Island, Singapore, Austria, American Samoa, Tahiti, Germany, The Philippines and New Zealand). He met many celebrities, including; Prince Philip, Princess Anne, Raymond Burr, Mick Jagger, Marlon Brando, Johnny Weissmuller, Ferdinand Marcos, Lionel Rose, Johnny Famechon and Jimmy Carruthers. Dennis entered the ring against 4 World Champions. Johnny Famechon
Jean-Pierre Famechon (28 March 1945 – 4 August 2022) was an Australian featherweight boxer. Famechon was the 2003 Inductee for the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame Moderns category and was the third to be elevated to Legend status in 2012. Early life and boxing career Famechon was born in Paris, France. He and his mother, father and younger brother moved from Paris to Ferntree Gully, Victoria, Australia a suburb of Melbourne, in 1950 when he was five. The family then moved to Middle Park another suburb of Melbourne. His mother Antoinette and younger brother Christian moved to Paris a couple of years later; John and his father Andre then moved to Richmond. Light flyweight, also known as junior flyweight or super strawweight, is a weight class in boxing. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division. On December 31, 1929, the New York State Athletic Commission also abolished the junior flyweight class. No champion had been crowned in this division prior to its abolition. Francisco Antonio Rodríguez Brito (born September 20, 1945) is a retired Venezuelan boxer. At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City he won the gold medal in the inaugural men's light flyweight (– 48 kg) division, after having claimed the gold as well at the 1967 and 1971 Pan American Games. He carried the flag for his native country at the opening ceremony at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. Amateur career Rodriguez, nicknamed "Morochito", was Venezuela's first Olympic gold medalist, winning gold in the light flyweight division in its inaugural year of competition, 1968. His amateur record stood at 266 wins, 4 losses. After the Olympics, Rodríguez signed a professional contract. Before fighting he took his mother to a pro bout. At one point, one of the boxers' bloody mouthpieces landed in Rodriguez's mother's lap. She begged Rodriguez to give up fighting and he cancelled his contract. James William Carruthers (5 July 1929 – 15 August 1990) was an Australian boxer, who became world champion in the bantamweight division. Jimmy was the 2009 Inductee for the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame Veterans category. Amateur career Carruthers's boxing career started as an Australian representative at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. In his first-round match of the bantamweight competition, he fought Fred Daigle of Canada and won on points. He defeated Arnoldo Parés of Argentina in his second match.
