Dennis Radtke
Dennis Radtke (born 29 April 1979) is a German politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 24 July 2017, representing Germany (European Parliament constituency), Germany. He is a member of the Christian Democratic Union (Germany), Christian Democratic Union, part of the European People's Party. Early career From 2008 until 2017, Radtke worked as trade union secretary with IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE). Political career Until 2002, Radtke was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Social Democratic Party (SPD). Radtke has been a Member of the European Parliament since July 2017, when he succeeded Herbert Reul. In parliament, he has since been serving on the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. In addition to his committee assignments, he is a member of the parliament’s delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula and the European Parliament Intergroup on Trade Unions. A Member of the European Parliament (MEP) is a person who has been elected to serve as a popular representative in the European Parliament. When the European Parliament (then known as the Common Assembly of the ECSC) first met in 1952, its members were directly appointed by the governments of member states from among those already sitting in their own national parliaments. Since 1979, however, MEPs have been elected by direct universal suffrage. Earlier European organizations that were a precursor to the European Union did not have MEPs. Each member state establishes its own method for electing MEPs – and in some states this has changed over time – but the system chosen must be a form of proportional representation.
