Dennis Nyback (July 30, 1953 – October 2, 2022) was an American independent film archivist, found footage filmmaker, historian and writer. Nyback operated the Dennis Nyback Film Archive, which has over 13,000 short films, from 1895 onward, mostly in 16mm. It is located in Portland, Oregon. Working from his archive he created over 300 found footage film programs that he showed extensively in Europe, Great Britain, Scandinavia and the United States He was a guest at film festivals in: Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, the United States, and other countries. He owned and operated movie theaters in Seattle, New York and Portland, Oregon. Every autumn since 2014 he gave a walking tour of the former movie palace and nickelodeon sites in downtown Portland as part of the Portland Film Festival. Yacolt, Washington
Yacolt is a town in Clark County, Washington, Clark County, Washington (state), Washington, United States. The 2019 population is estimated to be 1,796. It is located about 31 miles northeast of Vancouver, Washington, Vancouver which is part of the Portland_metropolitan_area,_Oregon, Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area. ''Titicut Follies'' is a 1967 American direct cinema documentary film produced, written, and directed by Frederick Wiseman and filmed by John Marshall. It deals with the patient-inmates of Bridgewater State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, a Massachusetts Correctional Institution in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. The title is taken from that of a talent show put on by the hospital staff. Titicut is the Wampanoag name for the nearby Taunton River. The film won accolades in Germany and Italy. Wiseman went on to produce a number of such films examining social institutions (e.g. hospitals, police, schools, etc.) in the United States. Big Brother and the Holding Company is an American rock band that formed in San Francisco in 1965 as part of the same psychedelic music scene that produced the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Jefferson Airplane. ''All My Life'' is a 1966 American experimental film, experimental short film directed by Bruce Baillie. It shows a continuous shot of a fence, soundtracked by Ella Fitzgerald's 1936 debut single "All My Life". Film critic P. Adams Sitney identified it as an early example of what he termed structural film. Description The film consists of a single shot that begins panning along a picket fence. As the camera continues to pan, red flowers on the fence are seen. The film ends after the camera angles upward to show a horizontal telephone wire and, finally, a blue sky.
