Dennis Morales Francis
Dennis Morales Francis (b. Feb. 1, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica) is a comic book creator, artist, and writer. He created the ''Jax and the Hellhound'' and '' Major Lancer and the Starlight Squadron'' comic series that were published by Blackthorne Publishing. He also worked in advertising, film and television including ''Late Night with David Letterman''. Francis started as an apprentice to comics DC Comics legend Dick Giordano before working with his partner Neal Adams at Continuity Studios in New York City. He became one of the prolific writer illustrators during the heyday of black-and-white comics throughout the 1980s. His comics work usually centers on science fiction and fantasy. Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. The Graphic Artists Guild is a guild of graphic designers, illustrators, and photographers and is organized into seven chapters around the United States. It is a member of the international organization Icograda. History In the mid-1960s most automobile advertising contained illustrations, not photographs. Many of the illustrators who worked for the advertising agencies servicing the automobile industry were unhappy with their pay and working conditions. Many were members of the Society of Illustrators, but they were told that the Society did not do advocacy work. So those artists banded together to form the Guild as a union of artists.
