Dennis Michie
Dennis Mahan Michie (April 10, 1870 – July 1, 1898) was a United States Army officer and college football coach. He served as the first head football coach and captain at the United States Military Academy in 1890. He served again as captain of the Army football team in 1891 and again as head football coach in 1892. He compiled a record of 3–2–1 as head coach. Michie attended The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, graduating in 1888. West Point, New York
West Point is the oldest continuously occupied military post in the United States. 1892 Army Cadets Football Team
The 1892 Army Cadets football team represented the United States Military Academy in the 1892 college football season. In the second full season of Army football, the Cadets compiled a 3–1–1 record, shut out three of their five opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 90 to 18. In the third annual Army–Navy Game, the Cadets lost to the Midshipmen by a 12 to 4 score. No Army Cadets were honored on the 1892 College Football All-America Team. Dennis Michie, who was captain of the Army football team in 1890 and 1891, was the coach of the 1892 team. Michie was killed in 1898 during the Spanish–American War. The 1892 college football season was the season of American football played among colleges and universities in the United States during the 1892–93 academic year. The 1892 Yale Bulldogs football team, led by head coach Walter Camp, compiled a perfect 13–0 record, outscored opponents by a total of 429 to 0, and has been recognized as the national champion by the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, Houlgate System, National Championship Foundation, and Parke H. Davis. Yale's 1892 season was part of a 37-game winning streak that began at the end of the 1890 season and continued into the 1893 season.
