Dennet Ayling
Dennet Ernest Ayling (June 8, 1906 in Buenos Aires, Argentina – December 18, 1987 in Los Cocos, Cordoba, Argentina), played first-class cricket for the Argentina cricket team in international matches and toured England as a member of the 1932 South American team, which played several first-class cricket matches. As a right-handed middle order batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler, Ayling's figures in the limited number of first-class matches that he played suggest that he was potentially one of the best cricketers produced by Argentina. On the South American tour of England in 1932, he scored 342 runs in the six first-class matches at an average of 42 and took 33 wickets at just over 16 runs each. The Argentina national cricket team is the team that represents the country of Argentina in international cricket. The team is organised by the Argentina Cricket Association (ACA), which became an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1974. With the sport having been introduced by British immigrants, Argentina played its first international cricket match in 1868, against Uruguay, with fixtures against Brazil and Chile following in 1888 and 1893, respectively. ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack'', or simply ''Wisden'', colloquially the Bible of Cricket, is a cricket reference book published annually in the United Kingdom. The description "bible of cricket" was first used in the 1930s by Alec Waugh in a review for the ''London Mercury''. Oxford University Cricket Club (OUCC), which represents the University of Oxford, has always held first-class status since 1827 when it made its debut in the inaugural University Match between OUCC and Cambridge University Cricket Club (CUCC). It was classified as a List A team in 1973 only. Home fixtures are played at the University Parks slightly northeast of Oxford city centre. Julien Cahn
Sir Julien Cahn, 1st Baronet (21 October 1882 – 26 September 1944) was a British businessman, philanthropist and cricket enthusiast. Early life and family Cahn was born in Cardiff in 1882 to parents of German Jewish descent. His father, Albert Cahn (1856–1921), was born in the small village of Russheim in the Germersheim (district), Germersheim district, Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis. He married Matilda Lewis (d. 1921), daughter of Dr Sigismund Lewis of Liverpool, who had also emigrated from Germany. Dr Lewis delivered his grandson after a difficult birth; Matilda recovered well but Julien would be an only child. Julien grew up in a strict Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox household in Nottingham, where his father opened the Nottingham Furnishing Company in 1885. A cricket team from South America toured Great Britain, England, Scotland and Wales in the 1932 English cricket season, 1932 season. The team played six first-class cricket, first-class matches and 12 other games. A seventh first-class match with Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Worcestershire was abandoned without a ball being bowled. This tour was the only occasion on which the South Americans played first-class cricket as a team representing the whole continent, though individual members of the side played for their countries in matches against touring teams from England that were designated as first-class. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs.
